Home internet connection a good thing in Bali

Tuesday night spent in Kuta in an internet cafe trying to get articles online. I managed it but it confirmed to me the great to move I made getting home internet access.

The connection went on and off and on and off. I sat there like an idiot watching my screen trying to tick over. Asking the staff "Ada Conneksi?" I found we didn't have connection. Like all the other customers I had to sit there and keep paying, waiting for the time when we were back online.

There are a ton of internet cafes around and some are okay depending on the day, but my Blueline home connection beats all of them.

I just checked out Blueline’s service and rates.

Well, at least there is one thing that is really much more expensive in Indonesia then here.

1/40th the speed and for (at least) 2.5x the price for 750MB / month as opposed to 6GB / month of traffic.

I suppose the other option, shared dial up internet, is pokey and sucks up huge amounts of time.

It’s always time=$ isn’t it?

Chris,

I agree, some things here arem ore expensivre (Ace Hardware is another example, you’ll pay a premium for your titanium hammer in Bali!).

Blueline has been remarkably reliable and a decent speed.

Has anyone got any goss on Telcom developing ADSL connections in Bali? I am looking at Blue Line but wondered when Telcom would be stepping up at the plate. I figure its just a matter of time. Have read a few reports that China is selling Indonesia the gear to get set up.

Any news?

Regards
Jay

Kevin,

Are you there for long term or visiting? So, you are one of those expat bums that Tony has been griping about. What are you doing down there? Selling weeds?

Hey, what happened to Tony’s recent messages? They just disappeared before I could even respond. Did they get deleted? I know a lot of people hate him, but he is my kinda nigga. Poor dude. May be if he had toned down a bit, he would not have gotten so many adversaries.

Phil: First you are anal if you think I am an asskisser for Tony but thats ok since you are the only one whithout an understanding of Humour or Satire on this blog.Yes I am here until I die please God and no I dont sell weeds, I leve here the old fashioned way on my wealth that i earned on the streets of NY dong. I hope nobody is deleting anyone’s comments as that only shows failure to compete.

Well, here is my two cents.

I have had global extreme for some time, 120USD per month for 100 hours if i can remember correctly. Basically, I enjoy getting on the net when I want and that means without leaving the house. Since I do business on the net it is important. However, I just learned of WiFi in Seminyak and they have the same price with unlimited usage. This is worth looking into, especially if you like to wake up in the morning in your birthday suit and jump online for emails.

ONE more thing, I paid 250USD for installation and that included an antenna on top of the house with a router, etc.

Global did a good job with stallation and all, however, that is the norm when locals want your money.

WiFi said they would beat the price. I think I will change over to WiFi and give it a go as unlimited usage with fast download and upload is not third world.

Good Luck.

His comments aren’t deleted as far as I can tell, every one of them is still on my computer, but there is some new program running, slightly different format. He was just sounding like a broken record, that is why I started the commentary to him. Kevin, I know that this really isn’t any of my business but I just have to ask, what are you doing there to “support yourself”? How long have you been there? I won’t be able to do my kind of work there til I retire & want to volunteer my services.

Kevin,

Do you mean “anal” as in “analytical”?

Wow!!!..dude… you are flattering me..hee..hee..heee.. I am not that good, but I accept your compliment. Hey, you can forget Tony’s ass as you can kiss my ass any time.

Yeah. How do you support yourself? Are you a retiree? Geeee man…how old are you? 65? No body retires young unless he is selling weeds.

Do you hang out with Nick? Man..I wish I could join you guys down there now.

Phil: Of course I mean analyst because the word anal refers to Human and we both know you are not from this Planrt. Thanks for your offer on the ass but we may have met allready in Q and i dont go back to the same ass twice. How do I supportt myself weel to start with Incredible good looks, sharp wit, winning personality, modesty and ya the US STOCK EXCHANGE. so wheen you say weeds i take it as Philiph Morris and BAT which makes me The Marlboro Man not the Marijuana Man. And Yes i am too young to retire and thats why you and every other Blogger must suffer me until i find real job. When Suharto was in power he was Mr 10%. You paid your money business was done easy!! Now with Autonomy and decentralisation everyone wants 10% and you still dont get the business done. It is not that corruption has changed but the problem is that corruption has changed from systemic toendemic and everyone has their hand out for the same goods which slows down the process and makes doing business worse since Suharto not better.
