Visiting the baby doctor in Denpasar Bali
Tuesday evening Ika and I took a taxi from Seminyak to Jl. Diponegoro in Denpasar to the office of Dr. Adam Zakaria. We have been there many times and know the drill. You show up, take a number and they get around to seeing you when your turn comes. I brought Bob Dylan: The Chronicles with me to help pass the time. The waiting room had a TV showing the usual Indonesia saucy slapstick shows and the customers, mostly Muslim couples seemed entertained.
Ika told me that Dr. Zakaria has Haji in his name meaning he has made a pilgrimage to Mecca. I can tell we have a lot in common, I am Muslim and have made a pilgrimage to Paddys Irish bar. A pretty decent guy he is anyhow and always calls me Pak Nick. I call him Dr. Zakaria. Our monthly visit costs me 65,000rp that I hand to Dr. Zakaria over his desk. There is no receipt its just straightforward business. He proudly showed me his new ultra-sound machine last time we came and said, General Electric, good yes. Yes I said, General Electric very good company.
Ika laid on her back on the bed while the nurse spread a clear gel on her ever-growing stomach. The ultra-sound machine uses a hand-held direction tool that enables the user to move to different areas of the stomach and see different angles. Dr. Zakaria told us the little bugger is alive and kicking (Ika can testify to that) and its current weight is 2.9kg. With another month to go we are looking at a 3.5kg kid. Ika is worried about the birth as she is small and the baby is bigger than average for an Indonesian. Dr. Zakaria told her, Its okay many women can make it. Lets hope so. Ika keep drinking the coconut milk and it will slide out.

ROFL, Nick. Whoa… sharp tongue, or should I say sharp typing fingers?
My wife, who gave birth to number 2 last November, cannot recommend enough the use of an epidural during birth. This behind the back spinal tap sounds scary but she’s done it for both kids and totally rides out the waves of her contractions with ease and calmness once the epidural is in place. She screamed for it once number 2’s labour got well under way.
She has a history of passing out cold when experiencing moderate to heavy pain and with the epidural in place and administered, she was able to deliver the girls “quite easily”. (her words)
I was there beside her for the two births. (cause there is no Paddy’s Irish Pub near me.)
can you able to tell more about seminyak?…and around kuta,because am sure we are not so keen to read about hotel..etc.im more intresting about the people and the life over there,thanxs alot ciao!!

hi nick !! nice to know that,your wife ika is going to deliver sonn.can you tell is how is bali tourism recently?….will this new year going to be busy in bali?..because am planning to going to bali for new years.as you know i been reading your update daily the only source i can read about bali,however its not completed
