The Ubud Writer's Festival started already and the last day is this Tuesday. I checked the website and saw my friend Debbie Carlyon was reading from her book Mama Kuma, one woman 2 cultures at 10.45am. Leaving my house at 8.30am I hi traffic in Kerobokan which was caused partly by the pecalang outside the Pura Desa directing traffic for part of the Galungan ceremonies. I quickly pulled over and fired off a few shots of the ladies carrying bantens of fruit on their heads. I that isn't a picture of Bali, I don't know what is. Even at 9am satay vendors were lined up on the sidewalk fanning the smell of cooking meat all over.
Somewhere along the line there was a mix up and I did not get to see Debbie speak, instead opting to grab a sandwich at Kafe, on Jl. Hanoman before riding home. My cafe latte and Greek sandwich cost around 35,000rp and were very good. Kafe seems a cool place to hang out and is popular with Americans. Riding home I had a 3pm appointment to take Jevon for an immunization in Denpasar. Logically there is no need for me to be there, but in Indonesian culture a trip to the doctor is like a family outing and dads are expected to attend. We took a taxi which took about 25 minutes and once at the hospital, Puri Bunda, were told the doctor was himself sick, so no immunizations today. We jumped back in the taxi and headed home. That's 0 for 2 today. Ika and I have an invite to a bbq in Dreamland tonight, Let's see how that one goes.
