The Bottle Shop: Expat hangout in Seminyak

The Bottle Shop in Seminyak is something of a legend among expats. Located just down from Bale Bali on Jl. Kunti the Bottle Shop is the home bar of the Bali Geckos Aussie Rules team. Thank God they were not there when I visited.

The bottle shop is not much to look, chipped white tile floor, plan walls and simple design. The thing that makes it special is that it has a reputation. People go there and meet friends. The place is definitely sports oriented, commonwealth sports that is ( rugby, soccer, Aussie rules).

I drank a couple of Storm Brewings new Red Dawn microbrew beers (15,000rp a bottle). Pretty good stuff and I will be back for more. While sitting sipping my amber ale a soccer game came on, West Ham vs. Preston North End for the 1st Division Championship. I was born in Hackney General Hospital which is equidistant between Arsenal and West Ham. I became an arsenal fan but West Ham would have been my next team.

While sitting inside the open-air Bottle Shop a couple of Balinese girls on a motorbike had a close encounter with an SUV and ended up sliding off at the side of the road. They were unhurt but were shouting and screaming about bringing the police down, and blaming the bar! The bar owner ( a bule) headed that scenario off by loudly telling them they were okay and to take off.

The cooking at Bottle Shop has always been good. What they do, they do well. Each trip, after a few days of rice, I get the hankering for a good breakfast and go there at midday for an English; a heaped plate and done to perfection.

Well done my friend Robbie (Geezah)

Barrie,

There are plae that serve here actually.

Peter thanks for the info.

ScottyCol, I think Stadium Cafe on Jl. Karkita Plaza in Tuban is the best place for an Aussie Rules game. Now the English football is finished all the screens can be dedicated to AFL when there is a big game on.

Stadium Cafe Jl. Padma is much quieter and good if you like some place. There is another place in Sanur called the Arena Cafe where my ex-girlfriend moved to. I guess she can’t get enough of sports.
