This afternoon I took a ride out to Canggu which is about 20 minutes north of Seminyak on the coast. To get there I took Jl. Seminyak north to the left turn after Cafe Mimi ( Global Xtreme) on Jl. Raya Kerobokan. I passed the left-hand turn for Pantai Berama and kept going to the sign for Echo Beach, a favourite with expats. Echo beach has a small strip of beach side warungs and I sat in a fancy modern place called The Beach House. This is really how Bali is developing, bamboo shacks have been the mainstay over he years but people with know-how and money are building places that people actually want to go to rather than just eat at by default. The owners of The Beach House are from Bali, UK and Australia.
The menu is mostly western and the serve microbrew beer by Storm Brewing, a Balinese company. A Storm beer will cost 15,000rp and Fish & Chips 35,000rp. I can tell this is a place expats in Canggu head to around sunset. I asked Iluh, my waitress where the staff came from and she said she was from Canggu, but other staff were from Tabanan and other parts of Bali. A sunday roast is offered for 45,000rp. The entrance fee to Echo Beach is 1,000rp. The Beach House is open from 9am-11pm.

Barrie, the only reason the Beach House is built there is because there is a excellent surf break right out the front and to the right and left. As for future development to the north is hard to say as there is not much tourist spots between there and Tanah Lot, although i did find a spot with a lot of potential Nanyi Beach.Want to go halves in a buisness there??
G’Day Nick,
What an absolutely cool looking place!. It’s good to see this kind of development, but, how far north will it go spoiling the coastline in the process.
