Taxis in Bali

Ika and I took a taxi out to Arjuna immigration consultants today in Kerobokan. We took Bluebird and the driver absolutely reeked of B.O. As soon as I sat down I realized the whole car stank of him. He did not seem to care either. Ika, in true Indonesian style sat for most of the ride pinching her nose.

I recommend Bluebird as they are the cheapest company and the most honest. Their flag rate is 4,000 and they all use a meter. Many companies have drivers who try to get rolling without using a meter. When you arrive at your destination they will ask for some inflated rate. Do not let the driver take off without either an agreed price or the meter on.

If you are staying in Seminyak or Sanur many restaurants will pay your cab fare to get you to you eat there. Simply call for a reservation and ask them.

In the Kuta, Legian, Seminyak area you will find so many cabs crawling along the curb you will only have to wait for a few minutes on a main street. Tipping is not expected out here but always appreciated. Many of the drivers will play a B.S routine where they pretend not to have the very small change, hoping you will say no worries, keep it. When pressed they usually mange to locate chance in some other pocket. Enjoy the cheap taxis while you are in Bali. They are great for people wanting an easy way to enjoy the party scene.

G’Day Nick,

Bluebird Taxis are indeed the best of the bunch. I have never encountered a driver with BO but I did have a driver in one of my taxis that insisted on farting a lot!.

I used a lot of taxis in november last year when I broke my foot and was in plaster. The rogue taxis and the worst are the White ones. The cars are heaps of shit, the drivers rude, and they always try to hit you up for more money even though you have agreed on a price before starting off.

Go Blue in Bali!

Nick,
Just read some replies from you in the message borad, about having 3 months on your passport, in Australia you must have a minimum of 6 months validity when travelling to Bali & most if not all other Countries, so make sure your passports are up to date! You must have atleast 6 months!!!!

Add a 3rd thumbs up for the BlueBird group.

My cousin, born and raised in Jakarta all his life (in his thirties) always tells me to insist on BlueBird taxi, and having not listened to him a few times out of necessity or convenience, I was hassled each time and wound up getting hosed.

No problems with bluebird, we (a group of 4 adults & 6 kids under 13) have just returned from Bali, B/bird were always clean and friendly and no hassles just like the rest of Bali really, so long as you slow down and don’t expect things to happen like Oz
