Surfer friendly bbq in Seminyak Bali

Sunday night we had another bbq at the house. Kick off time was 6pm and I sent out sms's in all directions. Murphy's Law came into play and 5 of the key people I wanted to be there had other plans including doing visa runs to Singapore. Never mind we had plenty of chicken, steak and sosis, Bali Deli being the place where I bought the stuff.

Palu showed up with 6 tourists from Europe, all very nice people and good to have along. Palu runs into those interested in surfing and I get to hear all their stories. One lady from Norway had scraped her ankle on a wall while riding her motorbike and her whole leg became infected, quite scary and makes me realize the need to be careful.

The German Kokoknutschallen charcoal performed wonderfully and starting the fire at 5pm I was still able to whip some a few sosis for late comers at 10pm. The bbq smoke clearing the whole garden of mosquitoes and making it pleasant to hang out in. One of the latest additions to the Palu crowd is a Frenchman named Alain. Aged in his 40's he is here in Bali with his teenage daughter enjoying the surfing. Palu has christened him 'Frenchy' and he answers to that. I really got a kick talking to him because of his good nature and mannerisms. Alain doesn't just speak, he almost mimes to the words and his knowledge of French food, along with his facial expressions were very entertaining. Alain told me about 10 times that I need to start surfing and he took my number promising to drag me down to the beach.

Other faces who made an appearance were Frida, the surfing fanatic, who is leaving for the US today and Angie who is in the middle of arranging marriage ceremonies and receptions. One of her friends who came along told us all about his marriage to a Balinese lady, which didn't turn out so well. "We had 5 minutes of hot tropical sex, then she was pregnant, then I spent the next 8,000 years taking her around Australia, it was a nightmare!" he said.

Great to hear other people's stories and we will have more bbq's.

Hi ,
I think this site is fantastic.I am toying with the idea of moving to Bali after coming to Bali nearly every year since 1985 AND IT IS VERY INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT LIVING THERE IS LIKE
I have 3 children aged from 6 to 14 and we are all surf mad .It does seem very difficult at the moment especially with children But I am looking in to it if anyone had any thoughts on it I would Appreciate it
