After a jaunt downtown today and a trip to Denpasar with Ika and Jevon I felt like a walk. Heading down Jl. Dhyana Pura to the beach around 5pm, I stopped to see the sinking into the horizon. Walking on the beach is free and every time I do it I am reminded of how great it is to live in Bali. Kuta Beach is mostly a golden yellow, but as you head towards Legian and up the coast to Canggu it turns into dark brown volcanic sand. A big bonus of a sunset stroll on the beach is the cool breeze, unobstructed by buildings. It was steamy today for sure and at Jl. Melasti I stopped into a Circle K for a new can of deodorant. The locally made brand seemed a good deal and I applied it generously. Sitting here in an internet cafe in Seminyak I am a bit worried the other customers might thing I'm a benchong. All the gay guys in this neighborhood go way overboard on the cologne and leave a trial 20 ft behind them.
One part of Bali that always does good business is Blue Ocean beach, which I passed on my walk. It's a total pick up scene, with guys parading and girls strutting. The other day I sat in Blue Ocean and watched a benching (cross dresser) sit on a motorbike across the street and adjust her / his hair for about 20 minutes. Funny thing was he /she looked good from behind, I pity the poor tourist who gets taken for ride.

Will you be flying from Great Britian to Bali on the new air service from London called AAC Travel-Antipodean Air Charter…I would be most interested in feedback from others who are planning on using this Charter Airline, as I was planning on using them early next year to fly to Bali.
Its steamy here in Bali. If you can sit somewhere there is a breeze its bearable. I am writing this in a internet cafe with no breeze and no AC. I’m sweating.
If you go up to Ubud its cooler and also places like Sanda Butik Villas in Tabanan or places in the Kintamani areas, its cool.

Thanks for the advice Nick sounds like a good idea, Sanda Butik Villas look lovely.
Michael - we are flying from Glasgow on Emirates to Dubai stopeover in Kuala Lumpar onto Jakarta where we are spending a few days before heading over to Bali
For someone puporting to be a somewhat scribe on social observation in your adopted country it amazes me the still obvious lack of appreciation of social norms and customs.
Transexuals and trasvestites and been an integral and accepted part of Indonesian/Balinese life for time immemorial.
You are here for two years and feel sorry for the tourist that picks them up !?
As for being recognised as Bencong (ladyboy) the word does not equate to (gay), look it up, could you not buy a dictionary? There is also no such word as “bencing” it is banci.
I have seen you you dress and your general appearance, there is no fear on that score, you look like what you are, a recently arrived expat with no education, here on the wrong visa, eking out an existence. Next time blow the budget, why dont you buy the expensive deodorant ! Saaaaaad !
In thailand we call ladyboy “katoey” , I think thai ladyboy is more pretty than bali one.
Hi Nick
I am getting worried about the hot humid weather that has arrived in Bali, coming over in about 4 weeks from the Scottish Highlands (cold and wet!) and have a husband who doesn’t like the heat too much - just tell me it is bearable! and do you know if there is any good fishing?
cheers
