Sunday shopping in Kuta Bali

Sunday here in Seminyak, Ika wanted me to go shopping with her. That meant baby stuff, house stuff and browsing the department store. I was not into that so I gave her some money and she took her sister and Jevon. You can take my money, but I am not interested in a spending a day off in the shops.

There were a couple of items I was looking for however, including a stun gun and new shoulder bag. Ace Hardware didn’t have anything useful neither did Matahari, so zilch on the stunner. Guess I’ll have to use the old stand by, a 2 by 4 if anyone breaks into my house. Riding down Jl. Legian in Kuta late in the afternoon I spotted the bag I wanted, but knew the vendors wouldn’t go below 250,000rp. That’s pretty steep for a leather bag, but my friend Made told me straight, ‘sorry Nick my boss wants 250,000rp for this bag.’ Of course what drives that price is the rent for the shop. Anything on Jl. Legian, restaurants, bars, shops etc. have to make more money to pay their rent.

Riding through Poppies I, 2 minutes later I spotted the same bag hanging outside a leather goods store. Without even dismouting I did my usual quick negotiation (take it or leave it) and got the bag for 150,000rp. Rent on Poppies I is a lot cheaper. I could probably get the bag for 50,000rp in Denpasar if I wanted to spend half a day trying to locate it. Its all about location.

The rain lashed down starting around 6pm and I ducked into an interent cafe. Riding home the trusty poncho keep me pretty much dry. I guess shopping was to figure in todays events after all.

G’Day Nick,

Forget the stungun mate. A nice baseball bat across the kneecaps puts them down quick smart and is good for creasing the odd scalp or two.

Kind of alarming, Nick. Bali can’t be as safe as you’ve been saying it is.

Nick,
There is an army disposals type store just out the back of kuta.. Near the bridge crossing the stream , if coming from ace hardware towards seminyak..
Have been told they have stun guns.
