Ika, Jevon and I spent the first half of today, getting documents ready for the British Embassy in Jakarta. We hope to go to the UK in July, and have some hoops to jump through. Documents needed, were a complete photo copy of my passport, Ika’s passport, photocopy of my house lease agreement, photocopy of our marriage certificate, photos, the multiple page questionnaire, copies of my bank account statements, a letter from me, telling my life story and the fee, 1,075,000rp (which includes the ‘handling fee’). The British Embassy uses local ‘agents’ to handle all the visa requests.
In order to get that off, I had to pick up my passport, which was at Arjuna Immigration Consultants in Kerobokan (they changed their website address). Ika and I ,drove down to Kuta to the Post Office (Kantor Pos), close to Supernova. There we got a money order from Weselpost (or what the correct spelling is) for 20,000rp. Next to the Post Office is a small photocopy place, so we were able to get all that taken care of for 1,400rp.
Staff at the British Consulate in Sanur suggested we use a company called JNE along the Bypass to send the money and the documents. We eventually found it and got the stuff of for another 19,000rp. I really hope we get the visa straight off, as an interview would mean going to Jakarta.
That’s part of the fun of being an expat in Bali.

Hi Nick,
By the time i write thsi everything will probably be sorted for you , but id like to add i am surprised 1, you need a agent 2. you have any thought of your wife going to jakarta 3. it needs to take so long. 4. i would like to ask why the people of britain pay for the balinese embassy open 9-12am , bmw car on tick, 24 hour security, just so sanur can divert all our questions to jakarta. I arranged for a visa for my wife to visit the uk 3 years ago as we were getting married after the meeting in jakarta speel i was worried about her possibly having to travel to jakarta alone but the visa was given the next day, also it was done by the embassy not a agent,
i also visited the embassy 5 years back when i first arrived as i had sterling but in scottish bank notes, the consulates reply was ,,, oh you have a problem dont you …. and ? that was it …very helpful …not.
also for the person who asked for usa visiting indonesia that would depend on the childs passport, my child and i hold a british passport and we access immigration with all other tourists and visa charge is applicable, while my wife must pass indonesian citizen control by herself, where as when returning to uk passport control take us all together …
Indonesia does not yet recognise duel nationality not where the MOTHER is the indonesian citizen anyway, but i believe this is soon to change until the child is 18 then must make a decision.
Please help!
I just realized something after reading Stuart’s posting. Our kids are US citizens and will be travelling back to Indonesia with me, who is Indonesian. Our kids are 1 & 3 yr old, and wont be able to answer any questions nor handing out the money for the visas.
How am I gonna do this?
I understand that I will need to go to immigration first to get visas for my kids, then do I need to go to the Indonesian control with my kids who got their visas?
Does anyone have any experience like this?
thanks!
Hi does anyone know how long it takes to process a settlement form and how long to recive the decsion from the British Embassy . My Wife will be appying .we are currently in the UK but will have to travel the embassy for the interview .
Hi Nick
Quick question is Jevon travelling with Indo or British passport? Hope you don’t mind sharing, our situation is similar with yours only ours is from USA into Indonesia. Thanks.
