Tuesday night I walked down Jl. Seminyak to check out the scene. After living here for a while I can tell expats from tourists and last night the expats outnumbered the tourists. The Main Bar, situated across the street from Bintang supermarket, down the street from Spaghetti Jazz, is a pool hall that my brother and I used to frequent. After getting Lasik surgery I am eager to see how my new ‘mince pies’ work in different situations. The place was empty and I chatted with a couple of the staff, showing them a magic trick.
The Main Bar has recently re-felted all their tables which makes a pleasant place to play. The owner was in the rear of the place playing one of the staff. During my visit the rain started and I realized I had not brought an umbrella. After another 30 minutes the downpour had let up enough for me to sprintover to Bintang, which at 9.30pm was still open, and pick up a new umbrella for 23,000rp. Its a decent one and you will find them on the second floor, against the right side wall as you are walking into Bintang. Walking home the lashing rain splashed off roofs and leaves, giving me a slight spray. Still its was actually fun, like standing in a shower and staying pretty dry.
