Born on June 30th Jevon is getting on for 2 month and is growing nicely. We have had a constant stream of visitors who comment on how he looks like a 'bule' and is big for his age. The diet of mothers milk and a small amount of formula seems to work and he can kentut (pass wind) like a champion. Balinese people often start feeding their babies bubur which is a porridge around 4 months and maybe a bit of banana. He already likes the taste of apple and Ika lets him such a slice of it. At night he sleeps much better now and during the day has little crying fits but is otherwise okay. This time of year in Bali has pleasant weather so for young kids its easier to deal with. I have taken him around the corner to the little hole in the wall shop and he likes looking around. Of course Balinese people can't resist holding him and I'm thinking of selling tickets, you get 5 minutes for 10,000rp.
Jevon eyes are opening more these days and he gets a little bit darker too with every week. I'm sure I'll look back on these days and say 'If only we could put him in his bed and know that he would stay there.' Ika is very healthy and the flu bug that passed through seems to have gone. I reckon Bali could be a good place to have a birth and to spend the first few months if someone had that option, as help is affordable.

So, when does he start on his Bintang feed?

Hi Nick,
…I was really relieved to read your post because myself and our little family are coming over to Bali for a holiday (and Singapore) in the middle of October this year. I have been feeling a fair bit of anxiety as our baby girl is only 8 months old. We love Asia and we were in Bali last year but of course I have been really concerned with health and safety issues. (Completely paranoid at times - actually it fluctuates - but that’s what being a Mum is like, especially a first time one.)..Anyway, I was thinking hmmmm, there must be a lot of expats in Bali with children, I’m sure they all cope…Then I found this website! Good stuff.
Cheers,
Toni (Cairns, Qld.)
ps - Your baby is adorable. Congratulations!
