Arriving by MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train from the airport I landed at Dhobi Ghaut station in downtown Singapore. Singapore is probably the most all round modern country in the world with WI-FI internet at Changi airport. My one way ticket downtown cost about $1.60 Singapore and took about 30 minutes including the wait or the train. Riding the train I noticed signs that said 'No eating or drinking $500 fine!' and 'No smoking $1,000 fine'. They are really serious, but I was getting used to the new rules after reading 'DEATH TO DRUGS TRAFFICKERS IN SINGAPORE' on my landing card.
The reason I chose Dhobi Ghaut, which is close to Little India, was I stayed once before in a low-cost guesthouse called Hawaii Guest House on Bencoolen St. Back again, the price of $28 Singapore was okay for one night was okay. My 5ft by 10ft room had a bed, a sink and AC. The bathroom was at the end of the hallway. In a funny way the Hawaii GuestHouse reminds me of Hong Kong or many other travellers ghettos from the 80's.
I could hear the movements of other guests and it reminded me of low budget backpacking adventures in other parts of the world. Some things never change, there always seems to be 1 older gay man lurking around trying to engage people in conversation who are trying to get to the shower.

G’day Nick,
Nice clean digs ya got there. That’s all ya need for an overnight stay.
Don’t bend over in the shower Nick!.
Yes Nick i suppose your room although small will do. Its probably just as well you can just about fit yourself in there and theres no extra space in the room for Gay Gordon and all his paraphenalia. hee hee
Looking at that photo, 5×10ft seems generous for the Hawaii.
Safe trip back.
