Giant spider in Seminyak Bali

Add another critter to the ever expanding list of wildlife that calls my house home. Ika pointed out a giant spider that lives in our garden. The thing must be 6 inches across and has built itself a very nice web. I’ll try to remember where it is located in case I come home late at night and decide to go poking around.

“Do you think its poisonous?” said Ika. I didn’t know, but most likely its not. When I lived in California they had trantula’s and at certain ties in the year they would migrate down the street.

Ana’s husband is very handy in the garden. He gets into the jungle with his machete and hacks down the bushes, which really helps to keep down the mosquitoes population. Not scared of the biting, ‘red tree ants’ he cuts the white flowering trees back, and helps with our allergies.

Hey Nick,
this picture brought a chill to my spine! We very nearly walked straight into the web of one of the very large buggers last year at a hotel in Sanur. Freaked me right out – never seen a spider so large – I am convinced that it was the size of a dinner plate! I hope that he is not a carnivore

You know they eat the good spiders there, right? I travelled to Bali in 2003. When I went, I asked about the big black garden spiders with the yellow knees, whose vast golden webs seemed to span every clearing in the rainy season. These, it seemed, were particularly succulent. They roast them until the legs fell off, then the tough skin is split to reach the payload. “Lots of meat and eggs inside,” They say. No, I didn’t try it.

Today I found a centipede in thr sink! Ika said it eats leaves, but the hairs will make you itch for a long time.

Hi Nick,
I am trying to get in contact with my brother, as our father is sick in hospital in Brisbane. We are having a problem getting in contact with him at his house. His wife will not let us speak with him and we are worried about his welfare? No matter how hard we try to contact him there seems to be barriers put up. All we want is for him to contact our mum to let him know about our dad and to know that he (Terry is ok) His name is Terry Okeeffe and he lives at no18 Utama iv Taman Griya Jimbaran. Home No. is 8479150 Would it be at all possible if you could try and speak with him in person and explain the situation? We are worried about him. Please contact me asap if you are willing to do this? Regards Jenny

I called today and spoke to someone I think was the pembantu. She said “Mr Terry O’Keeefe go.” I asked was he still in Bali and she said yes. So I don’t know what his deal is.
