Getting ready for the sunday afternoon bbq at my house in Seminyak. My tasks today were to buy more chicken, saugages, especially for Barrie's mum who wants beef saugage. Ika decided to cut up a lot of the sausages and put them on skewers. If that makes her happy I say why not, we still have the same amount of sausage. For my part I grabbed a few pounds of chicken legs and grabbed a big pot. Adding a little water, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, onion, lemon juice and soy sauce, I stirred the whole thing up and set it in the fridge. For the steak I bought a ripe papaya and pureed some flesh, together with salt and pepper. If this turns out right it will be lovely. It's all an experiment and I learn new things at every bbq.
Back at the house the relatives are cutting up salad and tearing the leaves off the 30 corns I bought. Some clever dick will probably tell me later that I should of done this, or should of got that, but screw it, we have got sausages, chicken, steak, tuna and barracuda.
Having just returned from Circle K with beer and a bag of ice, I experienced a classic piece of Balinese logic. The girl started to count the beers and I said "satu paket es" (1 bag of ice). She went to reach for it at the freezer and I said "Nanti" (later) "after I pay, so the ice won't melt." I paid the total and grabbed the bag of ice. As I was walking out she called me back, to pay for the ice.
Hopefully we'll get a good turnout today and I will some chance to talk to travelers to Bali.
