A while ago I was talking to an expat friend who is a pretty mellow guy and who told me about a situation he was in recently. My friend will remain nameless as will everyone else involved but I'll call him Fred, for convenience.
Fred was out enjoying some music with a buddy in a beachside bar and after a while his friend had to go. Fred decided to stay a while longer as he liked the band. During this time the owner (a foreigner) walked past and said "Hey man, you need to get up and dance, you're bad vibes and you are bringing the place down." Fred was dumbstruck, he was just listening to the music. He said then the owner took a napkin from the holder, wiped his ass on it and threw it Fred's face before walking off. Fred got up and went to sit with some Balinese friends he has known for years. "You look upset, what's wrong?" they asked. Fred said it was no big deal but was surprised at the guy's actions. His Balinese friends ordered a round of drinks and unknown to Fred, told the waiter in Balinese, "Get your owner over here and tell him he's going to apologize right now." The guy comes over and starts going on about how he's a big boss and he's got all these employees and anyway Fred is bad vibes and who cares. Fred was ready to let the situation go, but his Balinese friends had other ideas.

I wish I knew the bar you were talking about, coz I’d show up & wipe my ass on a napkin & throw it in his face!
Expats like him (& there are a large number of them) are snobs & I would not trust them at all…
I knew a few, but chose to steer clear!

Names will not be mentioned in this story. The guy may be a dick-head, but it is not my intention to hurt him or his business. I just want to entertain people with a story that actually happened, to give people an idea of what life can be like in Bali.
Fair enough.
But, I most certainly wouldn’t want to go to a place where the owner acted like that thus the reson for asking of the name.

You may not use this blog as a weapon against this guys, which is obviously in your right (I would do the same), but the truth is, if the guy hangs around a lot in the bar, he’s going to make some more like this and in a wile with no locals and no regular expats, not even the tourist will come! He will make his own bed.
Not in a million years would I come up with that “whipping the ass” idea… I guess you have to be particularly stupid to come up with that.
