Candi Dasa expats: Big fish in a small pond-part I

Chris and in spent 2 nights in Candi Dasa at the Pondik Bambu Seaside Bungalows, located on the main street. At night we would stroll down the street and look for somewhere to eat and afterwards have a drink at a bar. Both nights we ended up at Malibu Cafe, the bamboo shack on the streets with live music and we started to get an idea about Candi Dasa expats.

One place Chris and went into hoping to watch football, the western owner, an older guy, was sitting there with his mate, the 3 staff playing pool. As no other customers were in the bar we asked if we could watch football and his mate said "If you buy a crate of beer, otherwise its not worth our while." We told the owner we just wanted to watch a game for a while and he said "I could change the channel, but I'm not going to, because to have you 2 guys here just drinking beer isn't worth it to me." We walked off thinking 'what is the deal?' The guy owns a bar, has no customers, we would probably sit there for 2 hours buying beer the whole time.
