Buying a new motorbike in Bali

Since learning to ride a motorbike (Honda Supra 110cc) I have toyed with the idea of actually buying a bike one day. The Supra is the ideal bike to learn on, stable, no clutch and not to fast (max speed 80-90kmh). The Supra is a good little bike for screwing around on in Kuta and Seminyak, but I want something better for loner trips, off road and hills. Not being a good rider I don't need a fast bike, but being 5'10" (180 cm) I would like a bike with a bigger frame than the Supra.

My mate Mick recommends a Honda Tiger (200cc) which are heavier and have better brakes. Of the bikes I have seen around town the 2 that appeal to me most are 200cc trail bikes and a hybrid type bike from Honda 400cc. The owner of Spaghetti Jazz has a nice yellow one of these for sale and I can't help looking at it every time I ride by. Maybe its pure fantasy and I should check out a less powerful bike. If I'm going to spend money its got to be something I want, and another scooter is not it.

Hey Nick quick question. Hope you have not answered it already. I know you need an international drivers permit/license to legally drive in Bali. Do you have one of these? And if so does that mean you had a license to drive a motorbike in the US/UK?

I am going to get an international drivers license but I do not have a motorcycle permit in the US but want to be able to rent a bike in Bali.
