BBQ for the in-laws in Seminyak Bali

This evening we had a little bbq party for Ba Pak and Jevon, 2 newcomers to the art of drinking beer while watching meat burn. As I have my Indonesian relatives visiting and knew other Indonesians would show up I decided to make satay. After buying 3 huge breasts of chicken from Bintang supermarket, plus many sosis (sausages), steak and drumsticks, I zoomed down to Kuta.

As you go around the loop at the bottom of Jl. Legian, just below Jl. Melasti, there are 2 ladies selling turtle satay. They are always there and I rode over with a metal pot looking for sauce. "Saya mau sauce itu" I said "Berapa harga?" (I want that sauce, how much?). "Oh lima ribu." Said the lady (5,000rp). I was so happy. That sauce is killer and making it would be a pain in the neck, now all I had to do was cook the chicken on skewers and paste in on.

That's pretty much how it turned out, we cooked drumsticks first and coated them with sambal (spicy sauce). Then we cooked jagung (corn on the cob) coated with madu (honey) and then got into the satay. Ba Pak helped move the sticks around the grill and was having a good old time.

Later on our guests showed up and guest what was the hot item? Sosis! Pork sausages go like hot cakes and one lady sat there eating like a toffee apple.
