Academy Awards in Seminyak Bali

Modern media is so powerful because of its reach. Nowadays any dipshit who can make it onto MTV will have a worldwide audience, including people in the farthest flung places.

Today Ika and Jevon were on the floor of the porch, watching the Academy Awards. The show was in English and an Indonesian voice would come in, once in a while. Ika came upstairs and said “Wow, Brokeback the Mountain got 3 awards.” We have tried to watch this movie a couple of times, but the audio on our ’shady’ disc is not loud enough. Add that to the mumbling script and its impossible to watch.

Last night’s viewing of Mulholland Drive had Ika asking me questions like “So what exactly happened?” Feeling like a complete fool I said “I’m not sure,” age finally depleting the few remaining brain cells that carried the load. Today I found out that Mulholland Drive was designed so nobody could understand it! Ahhhhh. I feel so much better.

Ika said there are so many good movies she wants to watch, including Brokeback and other Oscar winners.
