GOSOK: Rub,shine,brush.

Bergosok-to rub,shine something(as in furniture,shoes etc)
Menggosok-Rub something repeatedly.
Meggosokkan-To rub something onto something.
Penggosok-Polisher,Abrasive

EXAMPLE:
Gosok gigi-Brush teeth.
Gosok mata-Rub your eyes.

Saya selalu gosok gigi pagi dan malam-I always brush my teeth morning and night.
Bapakku penggosok sepatunya tiap pagi-My father polishes his shoes every day.

Hey, Barrie!

Great Indonesian lessons!

I don’t quite understand the second phrase, though. If penggosok means polisher, why would it be translated as a verb (My father polishes…). There must be a trick.

I have encountered this kind of problem several times when trying to translate Indonesian texts.

Needless to say, “The Word of the Day” section is one my favourites.

I don’t think Bergosok is exist in bahasa

and Hermann is right, the sentence should be:
Bapakku menggosok sepatunya tiap pagi.

if you write Bapakku penggosok sepatu means:
My father works as a shoe polisher ;)
