Those familiar the climate in Bali will remember the torrential rains and flooding of smaller streets in Kuta. During the December-February period particularly morning and evening downpours are a part of everyday life.
That is not the case this year. We have the steamy temperatures but the skies have been mostly blue, with a downpour once every few days instead of everyday.
I am expecting it to be a long dry summer in north and east Bali, where they recieve less rainfall.
Having lived in California I am familiar with El Ninos, the weather condition that means wetter than normal winters and was thinking 2005 was an El Nino year. What happens basically is that the Humboldt current that usually flows across the Pacific from the Americas to Australasia, changes direction temporarily. This carries warm warm and rain with it. A dry December / January in Indonesia / Australia, means a wet winter on the west coast of America.
Out in Nusa Dua we had a scorching sun and clear skies. A look at our weather forecast shows only a 10% - 20% chance of rain and this is the wet season!
Here is a look at how California is doing.
Sun lovers or people who want to escape cloudy weather come to Bali now and book your ticket here.
