I wanted to stretch my legs and took a stroll down Jl. Legian and through Kuta Square.
For those who haven’t been here for a while Kuta Square has developed into a thriving array of tourist shops. most either copycat clothing stores or restaurants.
There’s a temple on the corner with carefully manicured grass. Nobody was there when I passed by though.
Outside a clothing store I observed these ladies sitting on the sidewalk. Two of them were buying Lawar, a traditioanal Balinese dish from a street vendor.
The dish contains rice, vegetables, coconut, pork, pork fat, blood and spices. It is served in a leaf traditional style. Along this street is a McDonalds and KFC. Very cool to see a local beating them out for customers.

Nick,
I can remember the days at Kuta Square where you had to carefully walk between motorbikes down the road as the footpath was FULL of tourists hustling & bustling! I also remeber a New Years eve about 5 years or so ago, when the old Bounty was so packed I was afraid the floor would cave in! Last year when I was there I was the only one there!!!!!!
I hope things pick up soon….
