A great thing happened in Kuta today. A hundred Green Sea turtles, the ones used for satay at Balinese ceremonies, were released into the ocean. Foreign tourists were enlisted to help with the launch. The 100 turtles were caught off of Sulawesi and shipped to Bali. The ship’s master and crew were arrested and they face charges.

The Green Sea turtle is an endangered animal, but Balinese are allowed to catch them for religious purposes. The Hawksbill turtle, also found in Bali, is caught for its shell.
