Visiting Sanur on July 31 in Bali

This was a funny day today as I ended a relationship that had gone on for quite a while.

I rent my motorbike, the mighty 110cc Honda Supra from a small place on Jalan Legian. This place rented me the first bike I ever rode (DK2974EN) and I have been with them since February. They charge me 450,000rp per month and since then I have met other people who have told me they have a bike fior 400,000rp if I am interested. I told my guys that I would stay with them if they gave me the same deal, but they were not into it, so today was the day when I said goodbye. These guys have to be crazy, every month I paid them and even brought them other customers, but hey, now they have another motorcycle to look at all day.

I now rent from a fellow down the street from me who rented Chris his bike when he was here. When I showed up at 9am his wife was sitting in the back of their shop breast feeding his latest.

It was funny because as I showed up with my bike to return I saw one of the guys outside and held out my key, “Finish” he said. “Finish” I replied.

I visited several internet cafes in the Kerobokan - Seminyak area and rode down Jalan Batubelig to the beach. One guy let me plaster my my stickers all over his shop and I noticed a little warung I will be checking out later.

Had a very business like dinner on wednesday night with a young lady in the travel industry out in Seminyak. It was so business like I really do not know what to make of it. Polite yes, warmth not really.

This afternoon I rode down to Sanur on the south coast to meet up with a gentleman involved in the hotel industry. He wanted to remain annonymous which I can respect, even though for an avid Baliblog reader this was a great chance to get famous. He even knew my cleaners name was Ketut!

We ate at Mamaputu’s on the beach next to the Hyatt hotel. I had satay chicken and he had a club sandwich. Very nice to have a change from Kuta. According to my host this place is an institution and Mama Putu was there in thr kitchen chopping up vegetables as I passed to use the ‘kamar kacil’.

It was low tide and the boats were stranded temporarily. This part of Bali is particularly popular with German and Dutch tourists.

We chatted about the future of our projects and finally drove back to the KFC building ( that’s the closest clue i’m giving as far as where New Buddy #1 works ) , picked up my bike and rode back to Kuta. The ride home from Sanur to Kuta is chilly at night when you’re wearing one of these skimpy Nike ‘no sweat suction body wicking’ deals.

Here at Internet Outpost its busy. Travelers are busy e-mailing mum and I’m busy posting to www.

Nick,

post some pics of the new hog, mate!

Is it still 110cc? Do you even need a motorbike license for that?

If it’s the same bike I had, Nick, you’ll be very happy. It was in good condition and responsive to the gas to get me out of trouble. The fuel gauge stays on Full for ages then drops down quite rapidly.

Yes Guys, its the 110CC Supra that Chris had when he was here. It feels responsive and its in better condition than my last one.

Mick suggested I upgrade to a Tiger 9 heavier, more stable, better brakes etc. ). I’ll wait till after I go to Thailand for that.

Over here the cops will use any excuse to give you a ticket. I was pulled over yesterday on the loop at ther bottom end of Jalan Legian, obviously the cops were running low on funds at the end of the month.

I had my reg and fake licence so no worries.

G’Day Mate,

Mamaputu’s looks pretty good. What was your costing for the meal?.

Geez, that’s the 2nd time you’ve been pulled up by the cops!. Perhps Mick has the right idea about getting a bigger bike…you could embarrass them with the power as you fly away into the distance!.

Nick & Barrie,

Hopefully you boys haven’t been too worried about me. While you boys explore Bali, i’m out here exploring Java. It’s been quite interesting to see the real differences between the two. A real lack of tourism on the most part. Had a good two weeks in Cimaja, surfing some great waves. Now, back in Jakarta pounding out the museum scene and exploring this concrete jungle. I’ll see you boys or maybe just you Nick, Barry I think your back in Oz, in a week. Heading to Central Java to visit the temples.
