Visiting Jayakarta hotel in Legian

Today I visited a hotel in Legian called Jayakarta which rates 4-stars. Many of these hotels are a variation on the same theme….large traditional Balinese style roof which serves as the lobby with rooms and cottages spread out across the grounds. This place has 3 swimming pools and 4 restaurants and is on the beach.

It was kind of funny as I got chatting to the ladies next to one of the pools who were selling Balinese clothing. One was ducking down behind the counter chowing down on her package of nasi campur ayam ( mixed rice with chicken ). I said it looked pretty good and so one of them told me there are vendors outside the main gate selling the stuff. I didn’t know who the guys were so 2 of the ladies took off and came back with my nasi campur ikan ( with fish ) which I proceeded to eat on a floor level stool behind the counter. It was good but loaded with sambal ( Balinese equivalent to salsa only very hot and less tasty ). I joked as my nose ran that I would go for a swim in the pool with my mouth open to cool down.

This hotel actually has apartments for families which is cool.

Now at Internet Outpost.

Missed Barrie today.

Miguel wants me to help him celebrate his birthday on the weekend and phoned to ask if I wanted to plan something special for him! I’d like to plan a month off in the Caribbean for myself.

Did you get any prices for those “FAMILY Apartments?”

G’day Nick,

Geez mate, the Opal Legian is right next door to the Jayakarta!. Not to worry eh. Actually I have been checking out a few hotels and cottages myself, and, as of tomorrow (Saturday) I will be at the PRAWITA COTTAGES. Great location on Jl Legian, good size pool (half-olympic!), garden setting, and I have a double for Rp150,000 Per night (double) including B/F.
Great place for those who want to be in the centre of Kuta next to Poppies Lane and easy access to heaps of restoran etc.

It’s funny cos Candika and I were talking about those apartments in the Jayakarta last night whilst ’star gazing’. Well, Candika was star gazing and I was doing my Terminator impression on a horde of Mosquitoes that suddenly found my flesh delightful!. I did ask the guy at the reception about the apartments last night and it seems they are on a term-rental basis but don’t quote me on that. If you like Nick, I’ll ask this afternoon when I return to Seminyak.

The hotel used to be 3-star whn it first opened but they just kept adding stuff and it looks like a 5-star now.

I have a page with apartment prices at home I’ll have to check. Since the bombing prices are more negotiable and packages can be found that easily beat their asking prices.

Barrie. Sorry I didn’t think about swinging in, I was totally focused on getting in there , meeting the manaer, doing my reporting and then getting home to write it up. I’ll be down at I/O later today.

I’m sure right now they’d rent the apartments to anyone on any basis, they are hurting for business. I know a French guy who rents a cottage in a place called Panorama down in Kuta by the year and has had he same place for 5 years!

Try burning a mozzie coil, ask the guys at the front desk to get you some. I use that old Maasai trick of covering my body with elephant dunk after sunset.

I read on one of the Bali real estate website that they were selling apartments at the Jayakarta for around $65,000 USD.

I wonder how negotiable that is???

Hi Barrie,
We stayed at the praweta for 5 weeks this spring. Mosquitoes are a problem there. We bought a small electric mosquito repelent at the matahari for 2 dollars US..it works and is odorless. Please say hi to the praweta front desk workers from marie and geoff…thanks!

I stayed at the Jayakarta in November 2002 at the apartments(RCI). They have an actual mini-kitchen with pots and other stuff so if the desire hits you to cook you can. The best feature for this place I felt was the closeness to the party places on Dyana Pura. I am new to this web site but I really felt that star rating(inBali) were different then the rest of the world. It seemed everyone was atleast 4 star but I was rarely impressed. Just some insight. If someone is serious about this property let me know I stayed RCI most of Bali, Nusa Dua-Seminyak.
