Nusa Dua is a section of the Bukit peninsula that has been developed for resort tourism.
When you arrive at the main gate its almost like stepping from Asia into Beverly Hills. Manicured grass verges, quiet deserted streets, security everywhere ( without a f*****g idea of how to do security )and large expances of ocean front property.
My reason for coming here was to meet sales safe in a variety of hotels. I did a blitz on several and tlaked about Baliblog to a selection of people.
Nusa Dua is impressive. Some of the resorts are just huge. The Hilton for example starts off with massive fountains and extends all the way to the beach…enormous!
These taxi guys were hanging out under a tree for customers.
The lobbys and receptions seem to stretch for ever.
Many hotels try to incorporate a Balinese and Asian element to their design. Staff are often dressed in Balinese outfits.
Riding out here from Seminyak took maybe 35 minnutes. One of the things I didn’t count on was the walk from the parking lot to the reception. I tell you these places are huge and with the sun blazing by the time I park and get to shade its about 5 minutes. Double that for coming back.
Around 5pm I called it quits and wanted to get back to Kuta before dark. I jammed up the bypass, rush hour just started and got downtown quick. I stopped in at Spaghetti Jazz on Jalan Seminyak for 1 beer. I know some of the staff who told me this place will be lcosing down for 10 days for renovation. Its a cool little joint, Italian food and a jazzy atmoshere.
They even have a spiral staircase to the upstairs area and cool photos on the wall.
My helmet is a big hit with the Balinese. Everybody says ‘ bagus helm’ and 2 people asked to try it on.

You r right Nick. have been to bali 5 times . Drove through Nusa Dua once and thought this could be anywhere in the world. Haven’t been back since . Saya suka your helm. If it had a tinted full face u could double for Darth Vader in “Star Wars XXV”
Keep up the interesting articles as we enjoy reading them
G’Day Nick,
How’s the occupancy rate in Nusa Dusa?.
Stephanie, I understand your feeling after visiting Bali. It is a special place and it will be great to meet you when you come back.
Tourism has picked up since the bombing but the period from September to December is typically a low part of the season.
The occupnacy rat in Nusa Dua is very high right now. I don’t know the overall figures but I can tell you from walking around some of these resorts they seem very empty, which means great deals and all the elbow room you need.
Hello Nick,
I came across your site while doing a google for Balinese Dance. I am going to dress up for Halloween.
I had always dreamed about going to Bali and last Christmas, my dream finally came true. Since coming back there has not been a day that I have not thought about Bali. I was a complete peace there and long for the day that I can go back. It is such an amazing place.
I just wanted to commend you for doing this site. Hopefully more people will come across the site and read your stories. Then they will be able to see what a peaceful and wonderful place Bali is. I pray often that the travel to Bali picks up. I saw many people struggeling do to the shortage of tourism. Hopefully your site will help to send people to Bali and help to restore the economy.
Well, I will definitely keep reading and longing for the day I return.
Happy Halloween!
Om Canti, Canti, Canti Om
Stephanie
