Visiting hells kitchen Kuta Bali

It finally happened. I put it off for a long time and its not going be a regular thing, but I made sure I documented it for you all.

Yes I ate a burger at McDonalds on the beach road, Pantai Kuta. They didn’t have coffee and so I got the regular burger, price 10,500rp, quite expensive compared to the local food and even to the US.

For the tourists who like Ronald’s this place is ideally located just up from the Hard Rock Cafe opposite the beach. There’s an outside patio area where you can eat your McChicken and watch the surfers get slammed by waves.

This being Asia rice has to be on the menu.

The inside area was cool with the air con blowing full force. My metal chair was actually cold to the touch. A tv was set to a music video channel and the staff chatted in between customers.

Speaking to hotel owners in this area surfers still continue to make up a decent percentage of traffic and McDonalds isn’t one to be left out.

Nick, you went over the edge!. You never struck me as a person who would eat junk food.

I am always suss about the meat in these establishments. My wife loves the burgers but she calls them Buffalo burgers. I wonder why? (He, he…!).

Rp10,500 is a cheap price. That relates to about AUD$2 and I believe here in Perth the cost of a burger is nearer to $4.

If you’re going to eat a BigMac,that patio’s got to be the best place in the world to do it.

This is hilarious Nick. I’d go just for the air con.

Hey, I’m at Leigh and Seth’s in Los Angeles. They say hello and asked how you were.

Didn’t you used to eat a lotta McD’s when you lived in HK? I guess we all have some eventually… but anytime I have McD’s all it does is remind me why I don’t eat their food-type stuff.

Though I wonder how much of that McD’s revenue actually stays on the island… hmmm…

Hi Nick,

Well you’re CLOSE, but no cigar. The best (Western) food in all of Bali is about 100 yards down from McDs – it’s called The Hard Rock! My wife and I eat there when ever we are in the area. Best damn (western) food anywhere on Bali – try the Onion Rings. However, I have NEVER had any food there that was not GREAT.

How do I reach you by phone? Love to meet for some conversation. I’m from San Francisco and have been here almost 2 years now.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.
