Sanur on the south coast is home to Patrice, a 50 year old Frenchman and friend of our buddy Mark fom NYC.
We met in Cafe Moka and Patrice invited me to visit his home and interview him about his antiques and art.
Its a beautiful sunny day and Patrice met me at the Makro supermarket on the main road coming into Sanur. He was driving his Suzuki Katana ( Samurai ) and I followed him though narrow streets to his house down a tiny local side street.
Patrice’s Indonesian wife is expecting and will pop any day. Her other young daughter was busy cleaning in the kitchen . Patrice’s place is loaded with great figurines from the mountains in Bali, some predating the existing Balinese culture…quite fascinating.
I have many great photos and will write up the interview soon. Patrice hates personal photos so I am unable to put a face to him.
Disliking technology and the market economy in general, Patrice would rather live up in the mountains away from other tourists and I hope his interaction with me can help find him some of the customers he’s looking for.
Among the items he has for sale are these traditional knives. He has a selection of masks and this ancient tortoise hich was decorating his floor.
Riding home I used the legs of my convertible pants on my arms for sun protection. They work great I’ve just got to figure out a better way to keep them in place, maybe a couple of large elastic bands might work.
Pumped my tires up yesterday and the guy doing it wasn’t using a gauge. He was grabbing the tire and filling it till bullet hard. The bike moves a lot easier now!
Back in Kuta I did some promotional work before hitting Internet Outpost on Poppies II to rendezvous with Paul Callahan who is doing our surf report. He’s given me photos of him to work on and they look great.
If you are interested in contacting Patrice to view more of his collection e-mail him at patricebali@yahoo.com
