Wednesday night my mother in law (sounds funny to say it) arrived from Semarang in Java by bus and we got together for a couple of hours. At the moment she is staying with Ika's sister in the kost in Kuta but will move in with us at some point. The 12-hour bus ride didn't seem to dampen her spirits and she is obviously glad to see Ika. I think having her married and getting things on the right track was her goal and I hope she has a nice time while she's here.
It was funny last night as she went to the bathroom in my house for the first time. After 1 minutes she reappeared from the bathroom asking Ika for instructions on how to use the western toilet. "I don't think I can do it like this." She said. "Just sit down." Ika told her. It really is 2 worlds colliding and the great thing for me is that no one is expecting to be taken to Ku De Ta every night. We grabbed a taxi down to Jl. Double Six to eat at Warung Murah and I think for her it was like a treat, as she usually eats at home.
One good thing about myself having lousy Bahasa is I don't have to answer a ton of questions. I sit there and take it easy. You might want to consider this route when choosing in laws.

OOOOH, NIck… You are so cheeky!!!
My inlaws speak good English, so it’s hard to take it easy & ignore the too many questions!!!!
We are thinking of inviting Gede’s Dad out to OZ later next year, I can just imagine him out here he will be let loose & go wild for sure, should have seen him enjoying the wine Mum & my Aunt had snuck into a cask & left at the village for him, he was guzzling!!!!
I don’t think my Mother in law would leave her home & family, but I think Dad will!!!
Enjoy the last few outings before baby comes along!!!!
I’m new to this site, but I wish I were you sometimes Nick. Living in Bali must be a majic dream.

Your last comment has Chris, Lawrence and I rolling on the floor laughing. Excellent - hopefully - we too can pick as well as you have.
