There is a land rush going on in Bali with developments all over the place. In the neighborhood where I used to live just off of Jl. Oberoi(Laksmana) there are big signs up advertising new developments with all kinds of crazy financing and terms of use. Check out this one from Apsara Bali.
Heading down Jl. Drupadi, the street that connects Jl. Dhyana Pura and Jl. Oberoi I stopped to look at work going on there. When I came to Bali in 2003 the connecting road was not finished. Now it is and a new access road is being built to access new villas that are yet to be built. From sawah to villa in 1 easy step. There will be people lining up to get in there no doubt, land in Seminyak and the areas nearby is gold dust.
The other day when I was checking out that guy's stone carvings in his house in Batubulan he asked me if I wanted to buy land. "Cannot." I said, "Only Balinese are allowed to own land, right?" "No." he said, "Many foreigners own land." "But Bali is for the Balinese and I want them to keep Bali." I said. "I agree." he said. There are plenty of people offering land and plenty of westerners who seem to be doing okay out of it.

I walked from Jl Oberoi up past Bodyworks the other day to the Australian International School in Kerokoban. Man were villa developments sprouting up there like weeds. I had a look at a few. They were kind of nice enough in their all the same way, but if I’d seen them only on the internet, read Seminyak, and then found myself ensconsed in some villa in the middle of a kind of battery farm for identical new villa developments with no context and paying the kind of prices they were asking, I’d have been even more spewing than I was staying at Resor Seminyak.
How much is the asking price for those villas any way? $10 - $50 Grands?
Help! Really looking to get away and just chill out for a couple of weeks - thinking of visiting Bali. Please can anyone recommend a good area and hotel for a single female - budget up to approx GBP65 per night.
Also I have no idea about the cost of eating etc - can anyone help! Thanks
The price of the villa in bali are redicilous. In 2006 there would be an oversupply of villa development and the demand is getting bad to worse. Beware guys. Their asking price for the villa is very very high and there are no guarantee return if the market is bad. If you really want to own a villa, you might as well buy a piece of land around these following area: Umalas, Banjar Semer, Seseh, Canggu, Oberoi, and Petitenget. Buy those land that is priced below RP100million per are. If it above that price, I think it is not worthy it to buy. It will be hard for you to sell in the future (if you are going in as an investor). To be frank, bali now is pretty slow….so BEWARE….
We plan for our first big family holiday’s in bali in December and thinking of renting a house/villa for 8 of us. However after checking all villas available on website the price is so crazy and “scary” that we’re not sure now if we still want to go. I heard that bali now is “quiet” and they try to bring tourists back to Bali.. but with price they offer for villas and hotels , I don’t think “average ” people like us can afford.
hi i stayed at villa in Seminyak called Villa 8 (www.balivilla8.com) and they offer reasonable prices for their villa’s. they even have a 4 bedroom we stayed in for a cheap price of just usd285.00 per night. if you split that cost between friends it works out to be quite cheap.
Having been to Bali many times over the past 30 years we decided to break away from the hotel scene and on our last trip rented a villa in Seminyak - Villa Kipas. This is a luxurious and very roomy 2 bedroom villa, with private pool, located in a little pocket off the beach between Oberoi and Sofitel hotels. Daily breakfast and daily maid service were included and being 50 metres from the beach we were close enough to just pop down for our daily massages. KuDeTa was only 5 mins walk down the beach for cocktails at sunset. We will certainly stay there again.
I am looking for investors who want to invest in Bali, I have 28,000 square meter land in Seminyak, near beach…ready to sell US$18,5 Million.

So, can we foreigners buy land in Bali or not? I heard that eventhough we can’t buy land, we can have long term leases like over 100 years. Is that true?
