United Nations Launches Appeal: Indonesia

The United Nations announced the launching of a $103 million aid fund to provide emergency assistance to more than 200,000 people seriously affected by last weeks strong earthquake that hit Indonesia.

According to the U.N. the funds will be used to provide basic amenities like temporal shelter, medical assistance, clean water and sanitation, food and protection for children. The earthquake killed over 6000 people leaving several thousands injured.

I was browsing the UNICEF website and came across an article about Nogosari in Central Java. As part of its wider crisis response, UNICEF began a comprehensive round of emergency deliveries to the village of Nogosari - providing clean water, family hygiene kits with basic washing necessities, plastic shelter tarps and domestic cooking gear - less than 48 hours after the earthquake struck.

With ever increasing success around the globe in assisting those struck down by disaster, the numerous branches of the United Nations will no doubt be in for the long haul in Central Java.
