Tuesday night internet action in Bali

This update is a little impromtu.

I had rushed home to type up something, optimize photos and slap them on a floppy disc. I have a handy little 256mg memeory stick but most of the internet cafes use crap hardware without USB ports so I’m forced to use floppy discs. Tonight I had one cafe lose connection and another who’s software couldn’t speak to my data.

Oh well that’s life, let’s move on.

I did get to visit the Puri Raja Hotel in Padma Utara in Legian and this is another very decent family type hotel on thr beach. Many Aussies favour this place and it was fully booked when I arrived.

Ika and I just finished a Sop Buntut (oxtail soup) with hot sambal and limes. Just the ticket for me late at night when I don’t want a heavy meal.

I haven’t spent any time at the Kuta Karnival yet although did watch a piece of Balinese theatre down on the beach around sunset. They had the actors ‘miked up’ and were blasting it out of the 4 huge speakers on the lifeguard tower. The immediate audience numbered about 40 but you could hear the dialogue for about half a mile.

For people who are familiar with Kerobokan the Circle K close to Jl. Petitenget has remodeled. It now has a lounge area and sandwich bar. One of the male staff, Budi, I know from the Kuta area. He would ask me how I was doing and I would say “baik baik motorbike.” The other night as we were heading to Medewi I stopped in and they had a wine tasting. Budi almost hurdled the counter in an effort to get me free wine and I had to call a halt after a couple of glasses.

Having to wrap things up here. It’s almost 10 pm and someone who has been working all day is waiting for me.

I have stayed at the Puri Raja on a few occassions and it is really quite pleasant, it is a little tired but the location is great and the staff are very good. We found the little shop over the road did a good deal on large Bintangs if you bought them regularly also they have a great fridge so the beers were really cold.
