Tuesday May 11th 2004 in Kuta Bali

Tuesday I dragged myself out of bed at 6am and went for a walk to the beach in anticipation of my once a week phone call from Sean in Oregon.

My route took me out of Gang Bima to Jl. Dhyana Pura and down to Gado Gado, then along to Pura Petitenget and back along Jl. Oberoi.

I like it when I manage to do this as the morning has a tranquility and coolness.

Arriving back at the house at around 8am I took a speed shower and rode over to Café Moka with Laurel. I must admit I have to get used to waiting for someone else to get ready and probably seem pushy in my quest to get out the door and do stuff. When you are on holiday it probably seems the whole world is on holiday with you.

Moka was quiet at that time of the morning which for me is great because I’m sick of Euro’s and their morning Marlboro. A bread basket and coffee got me jacked for action and after dropping Laurel off I shot back home to edit some photos for my Neka museum piece.

The good thing about A/C in my room is I can get some things done without feeling like I’m in a sauna.

Zooming downtown I hit Internet Outpost, a quick 15 minutes away and took the Jl. Benesari exit on Jl. Legian. The construction is moving along and has reached the little bottleneck of warungs close to the Adhi Dharma hotel.

A long session at Internet Outpost was followed by a decent workout at Adi Rai’s gym in Legian. I think I need an anger management course or something. While at the gym a woman asked me not to use a piece of equipment because she was using it. Actually she wasn’t using it, she was talking to her weightlifter friend but didn’t want me on the scene. I used it anyway and was thinking ‘he’s not that big, I could take him’. I dunno, maybe it’s the increase in testosterone but it took me about ˝ second to go mentally on offense. Have to work on that (leave the hunting knife at home this week).

Sunset saw me take a relaxing stroll along Pantai Kuta past the local guys playing soccer and tourists, foreign and domestic splashing around and enjoy the beach. I spotted an interesting sandcastle the Bali boys had made. One track minds?

Laurel and I just went to Made’s Warung in Seminyak for dinner, she having the nasi campur for 15,000rp, myself the pepes ikan di Bali for 20,000rp. Laurel commented that Made’s Warung is quite a people watching scene with its mixture of tourists and expats. We were checking out a table of older expat guys and their cute Bali boy companions…its all going on here!

Made’s Warung does a selection of Indonesian and western food and is very affordable. A good place to come if you are staying in Seminyak and plan to wander down the street to the nightlife. My nightlife tonight is a session at Global Xtreme, where the surfing is always good and the service friendly. Just seen something amazing…a tourist is commenting on the blog!!!

Hope you didn’t kick that sandcastle over now that you’re all jacked up from the gym.

hehe know the feeling Nick - when I was in Bali, I was in the process of writing you an email, looked over my left shoulder and you were walking into the joint (you still had your motorbike helmet on, but i recognized it from the pics).

Hope you are doing well.

Mark, very funny mate, I like it. If you ever see me in a tight t-shirt or even pick up a bottle of ‘Man Tan’ feel free to shove my face into a satay grill.
