Today at Internet Outpost it was happening with the folks from Baliblog.
Angie was there typing away and I got an sms from Bill who out in Canggu checking houses.
Shortly after Angie left the power went out and we were sitting there wondering what had happened to our emails.
Looking round I saw someone asking me if I was Nick. Its was Bobby who had just arrived from the US the previous night. Originally from Jakarta he’s been studying over there and is now on a 2 week trip to help set up a library system in Lombok.
I’ll get more on Bobby later. The one problem he was having on his first day in Bali was getting used to the heat and getting his Samsonite suitcase open. He told me he had always left the numbers on 000 and somehow the combo must have been set. What a drag!
All the above mentioned, plus Eskimo Girl Deb will be at Tj’s Mexican on Poppies I at 8pm. Should be a good time.
I am paying off my rent in 5m rp chunks to Nyoman the landlord’s daughter who comes round everyday at 3pm. I have 1.5m rp to go.
One thing I enjoy about living out here is the culture of course and at my new place there are offerings placed at the entrance and outside my door everyday.
Wayan sits outside doing some cleaning work for the owner and making some offerings for extra cash. Today the other Wayan was outside with her son Kadek.
These daily offerings are called ‘ canang‘ and they sit in trays made from banana leaves, held together with splinters of bamboo.
The fillings vary but always contain insense, flowers, fruit and rice. The flowers are pink or red to represent the god Brahma and white for the god Visnu (Wisnu).
These offerings are placed strategically around the place, at alters, shrines, entranceways and outside houses to ward demons off. The offerings for the gods are always in elevated positions whereas the one designed for demons are on the ground.
The person performing the offering lays the offering down, sprinkles a few drops of holy water and gracefully offers a prayer, eyes closed with one hand slowly wafting the smoke left right and upwards.
The idea is that the gods will come down to enjoy the essence that was meant for them and demons will keep away.
Here in Internet Outpost at 7.30pm Barry White lives and it feels like a groovy friday night…baby.

Women begging to come stay with, as good as it gets?
TJ’s the finest Mexican I found in Indonesia. Nick, prepare yourself I’m coming back for another round. Be there for a few weeks in May. Get those beers out the freezer and start thawing them.
Di, great! Will be great to see you out here.
Chris, at BootsnAll we have a ‘look don’t touch’ policy so although I meet plenty of travellers I never take advantage of my position. Nice to have friendly people visit though.
Josh, great man I can’t wait, I will stock my fridge.
Dang Nick, I was so looking forward to a cozy romantic weekend with you. :p
In college I had a similar policy, especially after a few beers: “touch but don’t look.”
