Bali has a number of large towns that are the capital of the various districts. The only real city in Bali is Denpasar. There are also other towns that initially were not important to the Balinese, but have become part of the map because of the tourist scene.

The large historical Balinese towns are: Negara, Singaraja, Gianyar, Bangli, Klungkung, Tabanan, Amlapura. In the last 100 years the flowing towns have become part of the scene and will mean more to foreigners on holiday, these are: Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Ubud, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Candi Dasa, Amed, Lovina, Kintamani.

Buying a guide book and reading a little about the history of each Balinese major town is interesting and may inspire you to visit.
