Riding around doing erands todays I stopped at Kuta beach for 20 minutes to check out the scene and let all you people not in Bali know what you’re missing.
At various points along the beach road Pantai Kuta are parking areas for cars and bikes, the Parkirman charges 1,000rp when you leave.
The low trees close to the beach wall provide shade for visitors and a hang out for the vendors. These massage ladies circled a couple of Indonesian tourists and were going at them like a swarm of ants on a cockroach.
One fellow put up his sign for temporary tattoos and just hoped someone would walk by.
Other strolling vendors made sure they covered up well under the tropical sun.
Looking down at the busy part of the beach I could the tourists were out enjoying the warm weather and the surfers were catching some waves.
Fruit vendor Wayan came up to me and I bought a mango for 5,000rp. I bargained a little bit but wasn’t going to waste time saving another 10 cents. She had small pineapples and mangos and cut mine up ready to eat.
For visitors staying in Kuta this beach is super handy being a 5 minutes walk from Jalan Legian. Once the vendors have figured out you’re not buying I think sitting under a tree with your book and eating mangoes could be a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Aloha All,
Not so good news here:

My former boss used to work at the Jakarta Marriott.
This stuff just makes me sick.

Hi Jason,
I agree that it’s sickening. What possesses a human being to take the life of another under the guise of a religion is beyond any manner of reasoning. Acts like this are perpetrated by imbicillic and moronically unstable creatures.
Hey Nick,
Loved the fotos mate and it reminded me of the early morning walks Candika and I took along the beach.
This is an awful thing to happen and I hope it doesn’t repeat itself in Bali.
I think the bombing trials could have an effect unfortunately.
I was commenting to Anne, Tracey’s mum yesterday about how out of place the big McDonalds sign is on the beach road, Pantai Kuta. Traditionally Balinese could not build above the height of the palm trees and the thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is the 50ft high ‘M’. I fear that any new attacks in Bali will be focused on that particular area, with McDonalds, Hard Rock Hotel and the new Starbucks located within about 200 meters of each other.
Let’s hope more brutality doesn’t not occur.
Well, it doesn’t change my travel plans any. I’ll be arriving Bali on the 22nd and on to Bogor via Jakarta on the 26th.
I can already feel the sand squishing between my toes!
Paul, good on you mate.Enjoy all that this great place has to offer. Its great that you young people continue to travel and support these people who need it most.I also will be there shortly(yeehah)15th for one blissful week and try to have a beer with this Nick bloke who is doing a top job of convincing the youngsters of the world to still travel to this exotic and addictive place.
My first massage will be heaven.
