Barrie,

Mengganasi and Pengganas are not exist.
the translation for your example:

Topan mengganasi daerah kami-Our area was attacked by a fierce storm

Daerah kami diserang oleh topan yang ganas.

Terrorist,one who attacks viciously

Teroris, orang yang menyerang dengan ganasnya

Hi Yenny,

Interesting comment. This whole entry was copied straight from an Indonesian/English dictionary.

So this means the two Indonesian Professors who compiled the dictionary were wrong eh. Hmmm.

yeah…true Barrie,
I’ve checked with my copywriter here

Who’s the name of the professors?
I should send the complains ;) The one we use is from Prof. Dr. J.S. Badudu (He is very famous)
and Prof. Sutan Mohammad Zain.

Yenny,

Thank you for your comments, it is very helpful for us to get the opinion of a native speaker. Some of these books are really a load of bollocks. I have an Indonesian book of kids names, supposedly from all over the world. The western names are ridiculous (McArthur, Cartwright, Flagstaff…stuff like that).

I think its the same for Indonesians learning
English, the stiffs who write these books probably have no friends outside the university and so normal speach escapes them.
