Wow! Never saw this word before!! I’d love to see it (properly) used in a sentence. I’d been taught ‘kadang-kadang’ to mean sometimes or occasionally. But that is used as follows:

Kadang-kadang saya minum bir di pantai.
Sometimes I drink beer at the beach.

Any guru bahasa Indo here? Barrie?

G’Day Nick,

‘Adakalanya’ is actually two words!. The root word being ‘ada’(there is, are), and ‘kala’ meaning ‘time. So the word ‘adakalanya’ roughly translated means ‘There is time’.

I would tend to agree with Garbi on that one (Good use of the word ’sometimes’ in a sentence Garbi).

The word ‘adakalanya’ is rarely used and it’s beter in fact to express ’sometimes’ in BI as ‘Kadang-kadang’ OR ’sekali-sekali’ which means ‘occasionally’.

Hi guys,

Adakalanya is used in (very) formal conversation.

Kadang kadang is used in daily conversation.

cheers

Hi All, Thanks for the birthday wishes, funny thing Bazza, it’s been my 21st now for a while too???

I must confess the reason I quit the Indo classes was because I’d go home excited after learning new sentences etc & run them past Gede & he’s say, NOPE!!! I’d be like well why not & he said “NO-ONE in Bali speaks Indonesian like that & they won’t know why or what your trying to say!”
They were teaching like the Formal Indonesian for business purposes but Gede said it will not help at all in bali as it’s just not how they speak etc, so I gave up!!!!
I know I am a quitter!
