Sunny day once again in Kuta. October’s into to wet weather was just a teaser and we’ve had clear skies for a while now.
Internet Outpost was doing great business today and when I arrived this morning there was only seat available, next to an Aussie tourist who was threatening out loud to ‘ignite anyone who was in the CIA’.
When there in no parking I use the parking down a side alley behind the place where the massage ladies sit. They are funny to watch, grabbing women and men to offer shoulder and neck massages and to try their best at selling t-shirts. When business is slack they revert to the pastime of picking things out of each other’s hair.
I went past Surf Travel Online on the way to Poppies I and snapped these ladies selling surf accessories. Its been a long time since I got to lay around in a swinging chair. This lady saw her photo and said “I look like monkey.”
The construction on the new hotel behind Pasar Agung off of Poppies I is moving along. For those who can’t remember this area, it used to be grass and trees and is located behind Secret Garden. Seems like a fairly big place and it will add room space to the immediate area.
I checked out motorbike helmets today at a place close to Bali Bakery in Kuta. They have Korean and Italian sport helmets that offer full face protection. I’m going to wait to talk to Mick Turnbull and see what he recommends. I figure my head is worth protecting.
Here’s an article in The Jakarta Post about President Bush’s visit.

Hi Nick, really enjoy your articles and photos.
Can you keep me up to date with your
full face helmet information. I want to
buy my balinese girlfriend one when i return to Bali in December.
Regards Terry
Mary,
I sometimes chat about politics with locals although I get the impression most of them aren’t reading the world news.
People seem interested in local stuff and things that will affect their economy. There’s support for Megawati here in Bali as her maternal grandmother was Balinese ( not much of a reason in my opinion).
Terry, I’ll document my helmet shopping. I’d be interested to see if you can get your girlfriend to actually wear a decent helmet. I met another expat that did that and she still prefered the bicycle helmet “so people can see my face.”
Aloha Nick,
Just got back from the Hilton Hawaiian Village where Bush’s motorcade just cruised through.
There were HEAPS of protesters and supporters and lots of dudes with plastic handcuffs and tech stuff in their ears.
It was fairly peaceful but still there were a few disgruntled folks belting away into loudspeakers.
Probably not too different than what went down in Kuta.

Panoramic shot of the internet cafe is awe-some.
Do you discuss politics with the Balinese you meet? What do they think of Bush?
