Thunderous downpour - it feels like the wet season in Seminyak Bali!

Sitting here in an internet cafe in Seminyak the rain has started to slow from a pour to a drizzle.

That is just as well as it has been hammering for the last 16 hours. For me the heavy downpours are part of life in the tropics and I like them. When it pours over here the rain comes down straight just like a shower, unlike windy London where it comes in at a 45 degree angle.

I can always tell when it is about to pour. The humidity goes way up and the air is sticky, skies darken and then suddenly the wind picks up, leaves swirling. There is a sudden drop in temperature and then the faucet opens.

I spent the whole of Monday flat out on my living room floor. I yanked something in my lower back in the gym and sitting up was very painful, forget about walking. I was on all 4s going to the bathroom. Would I even be able to make the wedding? I thought. A member of the gym gave Ika a medication called Flamar, which is made in Indonesia by a pharmaceutical company. It does not heat or cool the area but prevents swelling. Ika said my lower back to the left was swollen so we applied this cream. This morning I am exponentially better and walked to the internet cafe. Still get twinges and I am lucky to be able to avoid expensive medical treatment.

Here in Bali the chemist is called the apotek and you can get a whole selection of things over the counter, they even sell Viagra outside Bintang supermarket.

My wedding day is set for Jan 26th, muslim in the morning, Javanese in the afternoon and photos of both will be taken.

Having Ika whip me would not of made me yelp any more than I was doing already.

I asked her if we could do a wedding both laying down.

My health insurance is very good but I am still glad I did not have to go to the hospital…yet.

G’Day Nick,

Hope your back gets better before the wedding night!.
The stuff I use for my back when the thing plays up is Methyl Salicylate. Sure works wonders. I gave a jar to Sugar when he stuffed his arm up and couldn’t surf. He used it and sure enough, he was back in the water without pain.
You should be able to get some in Bali.

G’Day Mark,

Look forward to hearing from ya bruv. Yeah, wildefo meetupin Marchism - it’ll be a buzz!
