The wonders of papaya in Bali

Balinese tradition says that the papaya is one of the best natural remedies for stomach upsets and is actually somewhat of an all round healing fruit.

I’ve heard it had anti bacterial and anti oxidant properties too.

Having slight stomach bug myself I decided to give the magic fruit as whirl and riding back to Seminyak from Internet Outpost in Kuta I stopped at Bintang supermarket on Jalan Seminyak and looked for a ripe one. I asked the staff in Bintang their opinion on the papaya in the best condition. One young guy went off to get the lady who was the ‘expert’. She came back and dug through a pile of them finally holding up one and nodding. She weighed it for me and stuck on the label, 5790rp.

I got it home and quickly set about opening it with my boy-scout knife. The texture was just how you’d want it to be, firm but with no tough parts, the whole thing was perfectly ripe. I’ve been told to eat the seeds if I have an upset stomach so gobbled a whole half of the papaya seeds and all. The other half is in my fridge.

I am hopeful this natural remedy will set me right, after I’ve got Bruce’s wedding feast on Friday to look forward to.

Hey Nick. Hope you get better soon. Out here in India it is the other way round. Papaya is regarded as a “warm” fruit, which increases pitta levels and is to be avoided in a delhi-belly situation. Bananas are considered to be good in such cases. Oh, and drink lots of fresh coconut water, it will prevent any dehydration.

Once I had a pretty severe smelly case of the trot’s!!!
I was given a big bowl of crushed papaya seeds & all, a day later & i was back out at the disco!!!!
So not sure whether it was the Papaya or whether it had run it’s course! But I think the coconut water/milk is also beneficial!
You’ll be right by Friday & if not go to the Apotik & grab a dozen antibiotics??? Just point to some in their little book!!!??? hee hee hee

G’Day Nick,

Man ya gotta get your gut together for tomorrow!.

Coconut milk is a good remedy but I’ve never heard of Papaya being used. Another remedy I have tried is drinking the water from boiled rice - full of starch and would ’stiffen’ anything.

If all else fails mate, go to the apotik and ask for some Immodium!.

Hi Tracey,

Any more news on the immigration front?.

Barrie,
Not at this stage, but we are just so glad to have an interview date prior to next year!!! I am still confident he will be here for Chtristmas…. That will be a huge bonus, as I get time off work we will go away maybe just the 2 of us, for a couple days. Maybe start to expand the family!!!!
He will probably miss out on Maddison’s 5th birthday as that is Nov 26th, but Christmas will still be cool! I can’t wait to see him…. A pic would be nice Nick!!! I told him last night, that now he is ion a good mood about his visa he should go & get his Ganesh tattoo done, as he said he can only do them when he is happy! So he might go get it soon….
Immigration have now sent me e-mails so I made another friend, just telling me they received the fax I sent them etc.
I am a little bit nervous about him going to JKT…. He will be fine, but you know I am a Mum so I worry!
ANYWAY GO MIGHTY MAGPIES on SATURDAY!!!

Get well Nick.
You missed a beautiful sunset at Jimbaran this evening. A romantic (if expensive) dinner for 2 was a great way to round off our initial stay in Seminyak.
Karangasam tomorrow so who knows where Akari & I will end up - north, south , east or west.
Thanks once again for your help.

Vincent, I went to Ubud today and got a very good feel about it. My friend Bruce lives just to the west and its a cool mixture of artists and village culture. I wouldn’t mind living there myself.

Sorry Tracey, our Brisbane boys gave the Pies a bit of a thrashing!

Nick, those English boy scouts must be a feeder team for the SAS judging by the size of that knife.
