The Million dollar bill in Seminyak Bali
Thursday afternoon our pembantu Anna came back from lunch and was talking with Ika. They showed something to Chris and there was laughter. Ika shouted to me "Look what someone give to Ibu Anna's husband."
Anna was busy hanging up wet clothes and came over to hand me a $1 million dollar bill. Obviously a joke by someone, the bill looked good on both sides. Ika said that her husband's employer had given it to him and he had tried to cash it at the money changer. When he brought it home un-cashed, 2 more people tried and were told there was not enough money to cash that size bill and that they should cash it in a foreign country. Anna had heard I am going to the US soon and offered Ika 50% if I can cash it. We all had a good laugh, with probably Anna laughing the least. The fact that the note said 'This is not legal tender' didn't seem to stop anyone getting excited. Let's hope the next tip Anna's husband gets is real.
