The Kuta Beach area in June Bali

Today turned out to be beautiful with a mixture of sun and clouds. I don’t mind the clouds as they offer some shade. Anyway the waves seems pretty good down on Kuta Beach with plenty of beginner surfers getting some action and the hawkers having a feeding frenzy when any interest ws shown.

I walked through the large groups of hawkers near the entrance to the beach on Pantai Kuta at the turn and nobody tried to seel me anything. I guess its the body language.

From talking to hotel managers in the area the latter half of June has seen an increase in the number of tourists, at least in certain places. For someone thinking of coming here I’d say Bali is ripe for a good time. There are enough Aussies, Europeans and Japanese around to have a good time with but also plenty of deals.

There are some awesome deals on resorts in Nusa Dua right now! If you’ve evert thought of stayting in a resort in a tropical location this is the time and place.

Surfers, right now there seems to be swell. James and Chris who I met last week said the waves were too big for them at Ulu Watu the other day. Don’t usually hear that complaint.

The reason I was down near the beach was a report on the Aneka Beach Hotel I was doing.

This place sits on the beach road, Jalan Pantai Kuta and also backs onto Poppies I. They have a selection of rooms and cottages. Their gardens were really neat with thick bamboo trees all over.

The cottages had traditional roofs made of alang-alang and bamboo.

My host was Made Purnami from Karangasem in east Bali. She took me around and explained the history of the hotel and what she thought the highlights were. Location, location, location is this hotel’s main selling point with close access to the beach, Hard Rock Cafe and shopping, all within walking distance.

Made told me she is married to a German and we discussed the complexities of dating foreignors. She’s pretty liberated and told me even though her religious obligations are demanding, she’s not demanding and also tries not to ‘bring work home.’

For families this would be a good hotel from which to start a Bali vacation although I would want to move on and explore the rest of the island after 2-3 days.

I love watching the new arrivals on the beach & the “Feeding Frenzy” of hawkers to welcome them…So to speak!

I enjoy feeding the gulls when I’m on the beach over here sometimes, they’re always there, but It can be a pain when they won’t stop begging for more food. I’ve known people that don’t go out just because of them. Is it like that over there too?

Nick,

Don’t recall seeing too many birds, the locals have probably figured out a way to catch them.

I did’nt think about that, I’m actually more interested to know how many of you island hop? I have some Indonesian friends I met in the states, and the plan was to come over in 3 years from 2001. They talked about island to island travel by boat. Good or bad for white yanks like myself?
