The history of Suharto is hard to talk about in Indonesia

Former President Suharto was a man who ruled with an iron fist.

His rule lasted for 30 years and now people are starting to talk about it.

G’Day Nick,

Interesting story. Even though life under Soeharto was predominately tough [to say the least], the majority of people had jobs, the crime rate was down (even though corruption was rife), and the people had food and money.

In present day Indonesia, we have mass unemployment, business development has come to a standstill, corruption is at the same levels, and the crime rate is astronomical (especially in Java).

To top it all off, there are a bunch of politicians scrambling for power and each one of them cannot claim the fame of being a ‘perfect angel’.

There is an old saying - ‘Better the devil you know’

When all said, Indonesia is a flagging democracy and it needs a strong leadership indeed. So I suppose it really doesn’t matter who gains power now, but whoever does, PISS OFF THAT VISA FEE!.

G’Day Folks,

I know this is not appropriate for the Blog, but a friend just sent me this. Thought you might like a laugh…

The results are out for the Ozwords comp where entrants were
asked to take an Australian word, alter it by adding or subtracting
or changing only one letter, and supply a new and witty definition

billabonk: to make passionate love beside a waterhole

bludgie: a partner who doesn’t work but is kept as a pet.

dodgeridoo: a fake indigenous artefact.

fair drinkum: good quality Aussie wine.

flatypus: a cat which has been run over by a vehicle.

mateshit: all your flatmate’s belongings lying strewn around the floor.

shagman: an unemployed male roaming the Australian bush in search of sexual activity.

yabble: the unintelligible language of Australian freshwater crustaceans.

bushwanker: a pretentious drongo who reckons he’s above average when it comes to handling himself in the scrub.

crackie daks: ‘hipster’ tracksuit pants.

shornbag: a particularly attractive naked sheep.

Is there any chance you could do some research on the Background to Tommy Suharto and what he did around Dreamland. We went there on our recent trip and had to pay an entry fee cause of what Tommy had done, but we couldn’t get the full story though.

Barrie, very funny! One of my favourite word definitions from another sourse is;
Pokemon : A Jamaican proctologist.

Ann, Tommy Suharto was a general pain in the ass for everyone. He grabbed land from the Balinese residents of the Dreamland area and now they are using his specially built highway to ther coast as an easy way to make money.

Tommy also has half finished apartments overlooking the waterpalace in Ujung.

Here’s an article from a couple of years ago.

Obviousley you know a hell of a lot about certain parts of Indo…..the people, the scenic areas, the temples, the religions, the customs and superstitions, the good the bad and the ugly, the Gods, the Goddesses (stone goddess and the fleshpot honeys…take note i dont mean the trannys either) and last but not least Indo politics. Now come on Barrie…yyyyaaaaawwwwnnnn…..i get pissed off with our own scheming lying manipulating politicians never mind trying to fathom out Indo political ways, but i have to take my hat off to you as you are nothing but keen to understand as much about INdo.. and paticularly Bali as you can which will stand you in a goood position when you eventually sling anchor off the Bali coast mate. Perhaps one day Baz you will be standing for your own position within the Balinese political infrastructure mate although i think you and Nicko should be given jobs promoting Bali within the Balinese Tourism Group as you are already blowing the trumpet quite loud for Bali already. Keep up the work Barrie and Nick and we will son find trouble finding a bed on the island b4 long

G’Day Mark,

If there is one thing I enjoy it is your wit!. Tell me you’re a comedy writer on the quiet. You should be if you’re not!.

I have always had a passion for politics (blame it on pot-crazed days at Uni!), and spending a lot of years in Java, one can’t help but get carried away with all the bullshit that is associated with the structure. I only hope that some day soon in the not too distant future, Indonesia will become a prosperous nation and a respected one within the International community.

I agree Mark, Nick is doing a fabulous job promoting Bali and helping people who visit the island. I reckon the job as Tourism Minister in Bali would be ideal for him. I know the first thing he would do…chuck the new visa fee in the bin and introduce free, six-month visa entry.

Who do you fancy for Sat night?. Don’t tell me mates at old Trafford but I hope Milwall win!.
