The Discovery Shopping Mall in Tuban Bali

The latest addition to the tourist scene in the Kuta area is the Discovery Shopping Mall located across from Waterbom Park on busy Jl. Kartika Plaza in Tuban. The place is very impressive looking and designed to attract attention.

The property extended from the main street up a flight of steps to a rear promenade area overlooking the beach. This is prime real estate and one can only wonder at the money that changed hands in the buying / leasing of the land and the construction.

I parked my motorbike across the street next to the little tourist info ( read: day tours touts) and walked over. The new Starbucks is prominent in the front and no doubt that place will haul in the cash, the world now being conditioned to expect a green and black logo on their $3 coffee.

Inside the place a twin sided alignment of 3 storey shops sit under a roof. The place is pleasant with quality batik shops, sports and surf clothing. They know what is going to sell to the tourists and this place should see some volume when the tourist numbers are back to par.

Not all the shop space is full as construction still has yet to be completely finished.

To park on the property they will charge you 1,000rp per hour which is okay really. You will 1,000rp for parking along Kuta beach.

I bought Ika a Billabong shirt for Valentines Day (that guy should have been shot) and myself a thick Javanese sarong for 145,000rp.

Are the developers trying to make Bali into a mini
Singapore? Discovery Shopping Mall is not the reason I go to Bali, I can shop like this in Australia anytime. I thought Bali is about the simple things in life! For me anyway.

G’Day Nick,

Good to see the place is finally open albeit in an opulent fashion. Looks rather Colloseumish!.
I’d have to agree with Jodie’s comments.

Candika would have liked the Chinese New Year stuff!. Nice fotos mate.

Hi Nick,
Love your site.I have fun checking out the Hotels etc prior to our next visit to Bali.
We visited this Shopping Complex in January looks really great, I was told that the Discovery Shopping complex was owned by Megawati which was how they got planning permission for it.
Not impressed with the one shop selling DVD’s and PS2 games as my son was really interested in a couple but they appeared scratched and there was no way they were going to let us try them.Eventually bought these games from a great guy in Denpassar who had no problem about letting my son try them before he bought them. I think I ended up buying about 50 games from him because he was so helpful and I was able to go off shopping for a few hours leaving my 15 yr old son checking out all the games, He also let my son check out games he had bought elsewhere.

I recently visited Bali and saw some people with leather motorhelmets. They are great but probably won’t give much protection.

Can anyone tell me where I can find these helmets?
Is there a website where I can have a look?

Anybody has a phone number of the Discovery mall there in Kuta.

Customer services will be more helpful.

Thanks mates,
