Ika wanted to sleep with the bedside lights on and during the night I could hear the baby breathing and gurgling. He's totally healthy so I wasn't worried and his cot sat between our twin beds.
Early in the morning a pediatrician and nurse came in and carted him away for immunizations and check up. This gave Ika a chance to take a shower and get changed. Another nurse came in to help her wrap her belly in a special corset that supports it after the birth.
We received some breakfast, which consisted on banana, milk, porridge and soup. Puri Bunda has rooms service with a selection of local favorites. Last night I chose Szechuan chicken and rice for 25,000rp.
Our room is on the 3rd floor of the hospital and the 'kamar baby' (baby's room) is on the 2nd floor. Only the 'Ibu' (mother is allowed in there and they keep the temperature quite high. The cleaning staff came around at 7.30am and we were wondering if they were trying to boot us out, but the actual check out time is 3pm.
Puri Bunda has a nurse service and its quite good actually as we could order baby milk or a nurse to come in. Our room had a fridge, phone, TV, shower, AC, twin beds and a couch. The price of 4.1m rp for a natural birth in the 3rd class of room (there are 4 classes) gave us 2 days, 1 night. Ika is learning to breast-feed and seems comfortable with it. The little bugger likes milk and I think they will get along fine. Ika is hurting a bit from her stitches and the internal stretching. The previous night I was mopping up blood splotches on the floor after she walked out from the bathroom. She will get better soon and is greatly looking forward to going swimming again. Our neighbor, Kali, has a young daughter and an inflatable kid's pool, which I and sure our little kid will love.
We got a ride home from the hospital and will probably hire a nanny part time. Ika told me we could get one for 800,000rp per month. I know I don't want to be changing nappies (diapers) in the middle of my workday so that works out well. One of the funny things about Indonesia is that while people are nice and sweet, they would rather please their boss than their customer. Ika and I requested baby milk via the phone and were told, 'okay its coming'. The milk never came and we finally got a nurse to come to the room and asked her 'where's the milk?'. She said the staff were scared the doctor would be mad if they gave baby milk in the room, as he wants the mothers to breast-feed. They told us they would happily take the baby to the baby room and use a bottle, but not in the room. Sounds crazy, but that's how they do it.

I gotta get me a corset to suck my guts back in too…
I had stitches with Maddy & they tended to hurt fior about 5 days then get itchy (which is not a good look or feeling!) But6 after about the 3rd day once all the swelling etc was there it started pulling really tight & was annoying, but after 5 days the swelling must have gone down….
Nappies are so much fun!
Nick,
Congrats. I can hardly believe that you are a papa. My guess is that you will be a fine papa.
Love to you and please tell us all about your birth experience when you have some time. Barbara, Devin and Brianna all send big much love.
G’day Nick,
Shit mate, getting into the ‘baby shit’ is the best part of having a child!. Wear a mask, don’t breathe in, and don’t throw up (He, he…!).
Truth time: I have never changed a baby’s nappy in my entire life and so I don’t blame you for hiring a nanny to do all the ‘crap work’ (excuse the pun!).
