Take a day trip from Kuta - part II

Day trips can help you get out of Kuta and see a bit more of Bali. Not exactly independent travel, but if you are on a short time-line a day tour might work for you.

A list of tours will displayed at each travel agent and will include:

  • Bedugal:
  • This intinerary includes the Sanggeh Monkey Forest, Taman Ayun in Mengwi, Bedugal area and sunset at Tanah Lot.

  • Besakih:
  • Taman Gili and Kerta Gosa in Klungkung, Bukit Jambal rice terraces, Mother Temple at Besakih.

  • Denpasar:
  • Short half-day trip to temples and Bali Museum.

  • Karangasem:
  • Klungkung (Kerta Gosa) Bali Aga village at Tenganan, Amlapura for the old court center and the Ujung water palace.

  • Kintamani:
  • Batubulan or Kesiman for Balinese barong dance, Goa Gajah hot springs, Batur crater, Ubud.

  • North Bali:
  • Bedugal and Pura Ulun Danau Bratan at Lake Bratan, Gitgit waterfall, Lovina beach, Banjar hot springs, Papuan scenery and plantations.

  • Singaraja:
  • Mengwi temple, Lake Bratan, Singaraja, Lovina beach.

  • Ubud:
  • Silver jewelry center Celuk for half day, woodcarving center of Mas, Ubud and Neka art museum.

  • Uluwatu:
  • Half day at temple at Pura Uluwatu, sunset kecak dance and dinner.

One thing I would like to point out is that Singaraja is 3 hours each way, as is Karangasem. Spending more than a couple of hours in a van is not enjoyable for me. I prefer to take my own transport, stop where and when I like, stay over night and spend most of my trip doing things I like.

Day trips can be good if you want to pack a lot in though. I think for me the most enjoyable tours would be the ones closest to Kuta, less driving the better. Some online travel agents are charging over $100 per person for private days trips. Do yourself a favor and hire a car and driver for 100,000rp.

You can get a trip to another island. There is amazingly, a 1 day trip to the temple at Borobudor in Yogyakarta. Once again I would prefer to get my own air ticket and spend a couple of night exploring Yogya.

Great idea, and I’m glad you posted about it…my family always stay in Ubud while were in Bali, but we just hire a driver for the day or half-day and go see all the outlying areas whenever we need a break from Ubud…drivers are so cheap in Bali (as is almost everything) and it’s such a wonderful cultural experience to get out of the haevy tourist areas and see what the rest of Bali and the Balinese are like. Such an incredible island, with so much to see.

Hey, I wanted to say that I really enjoy Bali Blog. You’re doing great work here!

    Hi Nick..

Can you advise if getting a driver they would take you to the rice terrace / water falls and such? Any majestic ancient relics worth the drive? Planning a 7 day trip in August but still mix about what to do.

LAst thing.. any snorkeling site in Bali?

    Hi Nick,
I am planning to visit Bali in July 1-4 for my honeymoon with my family (eight of us, age range 16 - 70 years old)and we’ll stay at Balisani Padma hotel. I will rent cars and drivers as you’ve suggested. Could you please give me the list of the place that we need to visit in Bali, like something spectacular and only Bali has it. We live in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands so beaches are not something that we are looking for. Also, which restaurants have good food and good price? We also plan to go to Central Java from Bali. Anyway, thanks a lot. I enjoyed reading your articles.
