Superbowl Monday at Double D in Kuta Bali

The Superbowl American football game may not be everyone’s favourite but I have got used to watching it.

I agreed to meet with Duncan and Sarah at Double D on Jl. Legian since it was close to their hotel and was definitely open, unlike Stadium which only guaranteed being open at 8am. The game was played in Houston Texas and was kicking off at 7.35am our time.

Arriving just after the game had started I spotted Duncan and Sarah at the counter already glued to the screen. The 2 teams, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, promised a physical defence battle and that’s how things started but just before halftime things exploded and the halftime score was New England 14, Carolina 10.

Double is open 24 hours and serves breakfast. I ordered a pot of coffee, followed by pancakes and a bottle of water. This saw me through the whole game for 33,000rp. Our old friend Komang Armadi from a year ago was working the morning shift and she asked how I was doing and though for a moment Duncan looked like Sean.

Early on there were only 2-3 other people watching the game, the staff looking disinterested or else somewhat confused about this strange game. In the second half a few more people drifted in and people were cheering plays. I was going for the Panthers and sports fans Sarah was right behind the Pats, hurting with every dropped pass.

In the end the score was close, the Patriots took it 32-29 and I have to say this final was very good.

Sunny day today in Kuta. Right after the game I rode to Internet Outpost, felt dizzy and sat down for a while. I was hoping to run into some newly arrived tourists to get their opinion on the VOA proceedures. The place was having tech problems though so not too many customers.

The new visa regulations will hurts tourism in Bali and here’s how neighboring Lombok is fairing.

I remember watching the Superbowl 6 years ago At Krakatoa in Seminyak! I was with my good friend Lisa from Seattle & her husband Agus. I had no idea of the game, but those tight pants kept me watching!!!!!

Man, do I feel unAmerican or what? I didn’t watch a single down. I really like football, but the Superbowl seems like one big commercial to me, so I usually skip it. Maybe it would have been better over coffee and waffles at 7:30 in the morning!

G’Day Nick,
Watched the game yesterday morning mate. That field goal of Vintieri’s was a ripper. Would have liked to have seen a draw at full time though.

Hi Tracey,

You should be watching Gede’s pants!. How did Madison go with her first day at school?

Barrie, Barrie, Barrie…
You don’t normally look at what is already yours…You always look at what you don’t have!!!!
You look!???
Maddison has taken her collection of Indonesian Little Golden Books into school today, as she is going to teach the class…..Indonesian!!!
At her school they teach Italian or German, neither of which are very handy to us or most others (I guess!) So I chose Italian..! But she said instead she will teach them Indo!!! Who can argue with that? She totally loves school & get’s up early put’s on her uniform & can’t wait to get there… She has been bringing home books which we read, over & over & Over & Over again!!! I will have a look at gede’s pants tonight…. OOOOPS! Too Much Info???
By the way… No First day tears at school for either of us!

Nick I believe young Pedro will be looking you up approx 13th March…. SSSSSSH! don’t tell him I told you!

HI PEDRO!

G’day Nick,

Geez mate, ya gave me a hard time when I bought a pair of boardshorts!. Can you imagine if I sauntered into IO wearing a pair of those ‘block & tackle’ crushers!

Hi Nick!

Arriving in 10 days… and just can’t wait.

Our foreign affairs department is advising not to travel to Indonesia, on the basis of the chicken virus and so on. Have you heard of any reports along that line in Bali?

I called the embassy here to apply for a tourist visa in advance, so to avoid a line in Bali - they are requesting all kinds of crazy documents (employment papers, 3 pictures, passport, plane ticket etc…) all that for the tourist visa and a €50 ($65) fee!!!… What’s that about??? Are they trying to avoid all tourists to come to their country?? Isn’t the fee suppose to be $25 upon arrival? Have you heard more reports about arrival hassle???

Anyway, despite their efforts to keep us off Bali, we are still coming!!

I hope I will bump into you in some internet outpost while in Kuta/Legian… and that your continuing house search is successful.

Is your flu any better?
