Sunday night bbq in Seminyak Bali

montage091905 copy.jpgThe much-awaited Sunday night bbq materialized with a vengeance. At 4pm there were just Chris, Ika, Jevon and myself in the house, 3 hours later there were about 35-40 people. Chris is out here on holiday and like a good brother I had done some background preparation, organizing ladies for him to meet. Ika and contacted single friends and told them this was a chance to meet him. Expecting a big turn out I got 3 bags of medium sized potatoes, about 35 corns, 10lb of chicken, 3lbs of steak and a ton of sausage. Ika cooked the rice and prepared dishes of vegetables together with her auntie Daisy, sister Ningrum and our pembantu Anna.

South African bbq wizard Anton came over around 4.30pm to whip up some secret sauce, using things he found in the fridge. I told him the locals enjoy their chicken legs crispy and pedas (spicy). Palu and his array of Aussie relo's showed up with the music box people spilled out into the garden, there simply wasn't space to even sit inside, we had such a good crowd. Two of Chris's former roommates from England Anil and Pria are in Bali right now and came along. Great to see them and we discussed some cultural aspects of Bali. Pria is from Malaysia and I told her that her name means 'man' here in Indonesia. They are staying in Nusa Dua at the Melia and will find out what a chore it is being far from everything.

The cooler I bought from Ace Hardware was stacked with Storm Beer and the mixed crowd loved it. People who I have met through Baliblog in attendance included, Juliana, Ray and Wayan, Anton, (Bo and Kristi from Arizona also has booked their air tickets through a partner of our called AirTreks ).

Observing Chris maneuvering the sausages around with a beer in his hand I asked him why he didn't make more of an effort to get to know the ladies who had came along. He said it hard to have a deep conversation with them due to the language differences. We did have some interesting people show up though and as usual I spent way too much time hanging around the bbq with Anton who was doing a fine job.

Ray sms'd me this morning and said I hire a hall if these gigs get any bigger. It was great though and a few of us chatted till very late. So cool to cross paths with travelers and other people in a low-key environment. Nationalities covered included USA, Australia, Germany, Indonesia (Bali, Java, Sumatra, Timor), S. Africa, France, Malaysia, UK.

Soundsgood everyone. I love doing these low-key traveler events that give people a chance to interact.

Chris met all kinds of cool people but it too much of a gentleman to be pushy with women.

The wet season starts in November but you will get plenty of dry sunny days.

hello again nick, looks like i missed out by leaving a couple of weeks early, ( though i had a great time while i was there ) the barbie photo`s are excellent, though they would have been better if we could have seen them enlarged, i`m sure Chris would have enjoyed the party, but he would have been worn-out after the long flight, maybe another dip in that pool under the waterfall up at gitgit would do the trick, i still reckon` he will become “very good friends“ with that beautiful young woman i mentioned in my earlier post!

Sharifa-We were there the entire month of november, it only rained a couple of times. When it did rain, it was so beautiful & refreshing & cleaned the streets.
